At a glance…

▪ Our members have been in business an average eight years.

▪ A majority (23) provide

professional services.

▪ 13 members are non-

profit organizations (5 large/8 small).

▪ Two major banks are among the members of-fering financial services.

▪ A nearly equal number are female led (37) & male led (44) companies.

▪ A majority (65%) are Bronze level members; 7% are Silver; 5% are Platinum; and, 3.5% are Gold level members.

Anchor Member A COAACC member since February 2018, the Sylvia A. Garrett Agency provides full service personal and

business insurance products. The Financial Division provides life and financial products: mutual funds,

annuities and long term care policies.

The Central Ohio African American Chamber of Commerce is governed by a volunteer Board of five to 11 members. Board members are chosen to serve two year terms based on their understanding of and dedication to the growth of the African American business owners of Central Ohio. Leadership

COAACC Classroom presented by

Monthly lunch and learn sessions providing insight and guidance on common pain points/areas of growth faced by small business owners. Taught by COAACC members and industry experts, the luncheons are great opportunities to learn skills to grow your business without taking too much time from your day. The sessions are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month (Jan. – Oct. 2019), from 11:30 a .m. -1:30 p.m.

Quarterly Networking Each quarter, COAACC hosts and/or co-hosts a networking event open to any business owner, advocate, and ally interested in contract/partnership opportunities. In 2018, our networking events averaged 125 attendees with about 250 registered. In 2019, have networking events scheduled for March, June, September, and November. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Scheduled partners include The Diva Movement (March 2019 – Women’s History Month) and the Diversity Chamber of Central Ohio (June 2019 – Out with Elected Officials).

Lunch with COAACC

Bi-monthly networking lunches, held at Black owned restaurants, give small business owners and partners an opportunity o discuss: what’s going with your business, what’s going with the Chamber, and what’s going on in your world.

Outreach Events

COAACC sets up information tables at community events, business events, open houses, etc., to provide information on our services The goal of these efforts is to market COAACC to a wide array of individuals and ensure greater market awareness.

▪ January 25: Open House at The Body Lab & True Calling Health to celebrate their new space.

▪ January 26: The Diva Movement Women’s Wealth & Wellness Event

▪ May: COAACC Matchmaker

▪ November 7: COAACC Matchmaker & Networking Event Additional co-hosted or matchmaker events, will be posted on our website (www.coaacc.org) as dates are set.

COAACC Ambassador Program Ambassadors enhance COAACC’s ability to advocate by representing the organization throughout the community. Our team of volunteer Ambassadors will staff COAACC information tables at community events, business events, open houses, etc.

“As of December 6, 2018, KeyBank Polaris Branch has provided over $300,000 in business and

personal credit lines to COAACC members, who in turn have accumulated assets exceeding $221,000

in business and personal checking and savings accounts with the bank. These account balances represent

a 221% return on KeyBank’s corporate sponsorship of COAACC.”

Celebrating Our Members ▪ JL Tillman Insurance celebrated 40 years in business. ▪ Dehan Enterprises Insurance & Financial Services celebrated 20 years in business. ▪ Saints Performing Arts celebrated 15 years in business by offering a full year of free music programming to local high school students. ▪ Donya’s Florals was named Florist in Residence at the Columbus Convention Center. ▪ GinGer Cunningham & Associates was named the HUB (Historically Underutilized Businesses) Firm of the Year by COMTO (Central Ohio) ▪ SavKon Construction was featured in the ECDI 2018 Impact Report.

COAACC’s mission is to advocate and educate on issues that impact the inclusion and growth

of African American owned businesses in Central Ohio. Our work positions us to connect

members to do business together and to connect them with contracts and procurement

opportunities. As advocates for Black owned businesses, COAACC routinely represents our

members in spaces where policy decisions are made.

The Central Ohio African American Chamber of Commerce is a 501c6 membership organization. The

organization derives most of its revenue through membership fees. Donations and in-kind

contributions also help support ongoing programming and Chamber hosted events.

▪ During 2018 we provided referrals for business and contracting opportunities for 50 of our members.

▪ COAACC partnered with the National Urban League to host a networking event during their National Conference held in Columbus, August 2018. COAACC also participated in one of the Conference’s featured roundtables on Access to Capital, presented by Wells Fargo.

▪ We provided an estimated 55 consultation hours to Members. ▪ COAACC partnered with Dehan Enterprises Insurance & Financial Services and Grange

Life Insurance Company to offer the Sensible Benefits Life Insurance Program which offers Guaranteed Issue coverage to employees of member organizations.

▪ We developed and launched an interactive map of local Black businesses featuring more

than 150 businesses. ▪ COAACC hosted a Roundtable with Columbus 2020 leadership to discuss the 2020 strategic plan; COAACC members encouraged inclusive strategies at every opportunity.
