GROUP SALE AND BAKE SALE

Tentative Dates: Friday, May 1, 9a-5p

Saturday, May 2, 9a-12p

With the suspension of group activities due to the coronavirus it is possible we will be unable to hold the group and bake sale. Another complicating factor is the closure of the Home Sweet Home Mission Mart. They have stated they will be unavailable to pick up all the remaining items after the sale.

Regardless, this is a good time to clean your closets and gather up your no longer needed kitchen items, chil-dren’s toys, linens, jewelry, furniture, knick-knacks and spring/summer clothing. You will have them ready to either bring to the group sale or take to other thrift shops.

If the sale is on, bring these items to the church Mon-day, April 25 & Tuesday, April 26 9a-7p, or Wednesday, April 27 9-12p, so there is time to get them sorted and priced for the sale.

Don’t forget items for the bake sale. We have a lot of customers that come back each time looking for those goodies. Baked good need to be at the church Thurs-day evening or by 8a each sale day so they can be as-sembled into sale size portions.

Many volunteers are needed. Sunday after church is set up and on Monday thru Thursday we arrange and price items. On Friday and Saturday, we greet custom-ers and keep everything organized. On Saturday, after the sale closes at noon, we box up remaining items for local thrift shops.

Watch the church calendar to see if the sale is on! Even if this sale is canceled, we hope to have one in the fall.

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering

DATE CHANGED...TO BE DETERMINED

Every year we, along with many other denominations, collect the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering. This year we will collect the offering on a date to be determined (due to coronavirus keeping the church building closed). This offering supports several countries, including the U.S., where hurricanes, tornadoes, floods & fires have created a need for assistance during & after these events. It is also used to help refugees who are dis-placed by war or widespread violence. Other uses are to help people who have been in poverty & hunger & experienced injustice to improve their

lives. OGHS help continue long after the acute needs have been met.

Please prayerfully consider what you can contribute to this, which is the

main special offering we collect during the church year.

Thank you, The Mission Team

Need a Laugh?

It was Palm Sunday, but because of a sore

throat, 5-year-old Johnny stayed home from

church with a sitter. When the family re-

turned home, they were carrying several

palm fronds. Johnny asked them what they

were for.

“People held them over Jesus’ head as he

walked by,” his father told him.

“Wouldn’t you know it,” Johnny fumed, “the

one Sunday I don’t go and he shows up.”

Happy Anniversary!

St Luke Union Church Share & Care Plan

In these strange times of isolation and working to halt the spread of COVID-19, I have come up with a few things that we,

as the family of St Luke Union Church, can do to support one another. As Sandi and I have spent more time at home and have even

begun our spring cleaning early, we have realized that we are well supplied in certain areas and perhaps low in others. I would like

to invite each of us to make available our excess to those with less. This could include specific food items, or meals, a need for

pick-up and delivery of food, medicine and other incidental items. If you have a specific need or are will to offer assistance, I invite

you to contact our Office Manager Lisa Dornbush via email [email protected] and she will be acting as our clearing house

of need and service.

We, as a community of faith, have always done a wonderful job in caring for one another and as we offer worship only

online through Facebook and YouTube, this will not allow for opportunity to be in physical fellowship. We have members of our

church family that are now isolated for their own health and the health of the greater community. We need to stay connected to

one another and encourage each of you to reach out, with a phone call, letter, card, e-mail, text or any other means of communica-

tion. If you are in need of any contact information, again please contact our Office Manager, Lisa Dornbush via email.

In this environment of social isolation, let us become an epidemic of care.

Peace and Health,

Pastor Andy

Subject: Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Thursday, March 19, 2020

To all St Luke Union Church Family,

During our March Vision and Ministry Council (VMC) meeting, COVID-19 (Coronavirus) was discussed. That conversation included

methods of personal prevention, continuous cleaning procedures of the church building, methods for sharing Holy Communion and

alternate forms of worship. On March 16th, the decision to not hold in-person worship at St Luke Union Church through the month

was made. The church office has been closed and no activities will take place through April 6, 2020. At that time, the Vision and

Ministry Council will re-evaluate the current conditions and decide how to move forward. When we begin to physically worship

together again, it has been decided to not offer Holy Communion, passing of the peace, or hold hands while singing the doxology.

Personal Prevention: Common sense practices of coughing into elbows, washing hands, and limiting personal contact. Included are a

few links that can offer further education of healthy practices. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html

http://dph.illinois.gov/topics-services/diseases-and-conditions/diseases-a-z-list/coronavirus

The church custodian Juan Galvan has established a cleaning routine with the prevention of germs in mind. These include borrowed

practices from his work at State Farm.

We have ensured the cleaning materials used are specific to killing the virus.

Bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned daily.

The sanctuary has been thoroughly cleaned including the wiping of all surfaces and pews. This thorough cleaning will be conducted

on a regular basis until further notice.

Every Friday, all surfaces and rooms in the office complex are thoroughly cleaned.

Special attention is being given to the areas that people touch most frequently including paper towel dispenser, door handles, light

switches, toilet flush handles and surface areas.

During this time of closure, Juan will be conducting a deeper cleaning of the entire building.

St Luke Union Church is a caring community that has always reached out with a hand of God’s grace, but in this time let us not share

in the possible spread of germs. Help avoid the spread of illness, yet share of yourselves through calls, cards, emails, and texts in

this time of social isolation. If you have any questions, concerns or needs please call me and we as a church will figure out how best

to serve.

Peace of God,

Rev Dr Andrew Gifford
