Introduction
• The theme of isolation was present throughout the play and connected to
the characters, setting and plot of the story.
• Isolation meaning is the complete separation from others. The state of being isolated.
• Some synonyms of isolation: seclusion, hiding, exile, concealment, segregation, and
withdrawal.
• All of these are present within Anne Frank and connect to Peter Van Daan.
• Sometimes we use isolation to protest ourselves from the world around us.
Peter-character
Evidence 1
• Peter isolates himself from others not just because he is shy but he also has
moments where he is ashamed of his parents behavior.
• Peter “I’m sort of a lone wolf ” (Goodrich and Hackett, Act I scene 2 pg.
377)
Evidence 2
• When it comes to isolation for Peter there is one that connects all the
characters and that is being in the Annex, hiding from the Nazis.
• They have even placed Peter away from the others in the Annex. Looking at
the map provided. (Goodrich and Hackett, page 370.
