GATHERING DATA
METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
Primary Data Collection :
The researcher gathered information on a first hand basis using Questionnaires, and
Observation,.
Data Collection
In order to complete this research the researcher will be using both primary and secondary data
collection methods. Primary data collection will be in the form of questionnaires, while
secondary data collection will be in the form of printed material example, internet and books.
The researcher decided to use both the primary and secondary data collection. The primary
method of data collection used in a questionnaire which consists of ten questions, as the
researcher felt that this was adequate in answering the research questions.
The secondary method of data was also used in collecting information. This was done to gain
additional knowledge of the topic being investigated.
Advantages
1. It is straight forward and easy to understand.
2. This method provides confidentiality.
3. It is cost effective and it saves time.
Disadvantages
1. Questionnaires can get destroyed easily.
2. They can get lost.
3. Persons can tell lies on questionnaires.
6
POPULATION SIZE

approximately one hundred people including a management team of managers and senior
managers this includes male and females.
SAMPLE SIZE

was easier obtaining information without going to unfamiliar places which would not provide her
with the necessary information ten employees participated, which consist seven women and three
men. This includes one person from the workforce department and nine persons from the
Amazon account 3 males and 7 females).
The instrument was developed with the view to collect data in the following areas:
a. Maintenance

Regulations and Company Policies
While carrying out this research at (ACS) Affiliate computer service one rule the researcher had
to abide by no tailgating rule where every one has to use his / her own swipe card to enter and
exit the building.
You are looking at safety at the work place and you did not see anything else. Are there no
factory Act that must be followed by the business.

greatest challenge faced by workers is working a late shift , of this amount 7 were females and 2
males 10 % said there challenge is limited transportation provided by the company, females
shows a greater concerned for working late shifts, according to the respondents some of the
safety measures in place at ACS are :warning signs, safety drills, educating of employee on

5-10 months , 70% of the respondents said they are not sure how they are coping with the

30% are in agreement ,all the respondents thinks a sick bay should be implemented. Of the tem
respondents seven were females and three males.
Pie chart showing responses to question 5:What are some of the challenges faced by
employees?
Late shifts.Limited transportation.Insufficient security.
11
The above chart show that out of a total of 10 employees males and females 90% of them thinks
one of the greatest challenge faced by employees is having to work a late shift ,10 % thinks the
greatest challenge is having limited transportation provided no one thought insufficient security
was a challenge.
Statistic table showing responses to question 7: How often do you have fire drills
carried out?
ANSWERS FREQUENCY PERCENTAGE
once per month 0 0
5-10 months 2 20%
never 8 80%
The statistic table above shows that out of a total of 10 employees male and female 80% or 8
said they have never done a fire drill at ACS 20% or 2 persons said fire drills are carried out
once per months and thinks a fire drill was carried out within the last 3-5 months.
If possible the worker should be given a shift based on the area they live in and the availability of
transportation to that area. and vice versa. Once workers feel comfortable getting home after
work it makes working throughout the day easier and more comfortable and
There are benefits such as:
1. Improved health and safety for workers
2. Higher morale throughout the workplace
3. Improved quality
4. Improved productivity
12
5. Improved competitiveness
6. Decreased absenteeism and turnover
7. Fewer workplace injuries/health problems
It was unanimous among the respondents at ACS that a sickbay should be implemented as proper
and safe working environment will improve the quality and quantity of service in terms of
quality, and competitiveness. The resulting advantages of proper security in the workplace
brought about by the use of the technology employed were the creation of additional capital, the
improvement in production and less time consuming for the workers
All of the male and female staff at ACS acknowledges that adequate working condition were
in place for the workers to enjoy.
Based on the foregoing conclusions, the following recommendations were made:
1 In addition to having new technology, the management ACS Portmore needs to ensure
that the workers health and safety are looked after so as to maintain the level of productivity.
2 The fact that most of the respondents have never seen a fire drill at ACS it means in case
of an emergency most persons wouldn’t know the escape and so fire drills should be carried
out more frequently.
3 Since most of the necessary equipment are in place it does mean ACS is on the right path
and ACS Port more - implemented a fairly well working conditions, hence, management
must continue on this path.
