Reflection
“The teacher made the lessons interesting, helping me to remember facts, and understand the lesson better. From primary school to secondary school, there was a lot of change in learning. We had to
do research on our own, instead of being "spoon-fed" in primary school. After every week, I would give my notes to my mom, and she would test me. If I got most of my facts and theories
right, I would pass, that's how I ensured that I had learnt. What I liked about the lessons was that it was interesting, very productive (we would cover a lot in 1 lesson), and our teacher was awesome”

Changes to affiliation policy
• In Committee of Supply (COS) Debate 2017, MOE announced changes to affiliation priority admission to secondary schools. “MOE is committed to ensure that all schools remain open to all students, regardless of their backgrounds and connections even while we recognise the valuable historical ties between affiliated primary and secondary schools. Today, 27 secondary schools offer students from their affiliated primary schools priority in the Secondary One posting. Affiliates qualify for this priority only if they indicate the affiliated secondary school as their first choice.
• Starting from the 2019 S1 Posting Exercise (i.e. 2019 PSLE cohort), 20% of places for each course (Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical)) in every affiliated secondary school will be reserved for students who do not benefit from affiliation priority. This is an extension of how we had set aside places for children without prior connections at the Primary 1 Registration Exercise. Since the 2014 P1 Registration Exercise, at least 40 places in every primary school are set aside for children with no prior connections to the school in Primary 1.”

Implications for ACSP & ACSJ students
• The Cut-Off Point (COP) for students who benefit from affiliation priority will rise on average about 7 to 10 points.
• Apart from the rise in points, another implication will be the restriction of options for students who are in the option band (Express/Normal Academic or Normal Academic/Normal Technical).
• These students will not be able to gain entry in ACSBR should they choose the more demanding curriculum option i.e. Express in Express/NA band, NA in NA/NT band.
60 Barker Road, Singapore 309919 | Tel: (65) 6256 1633 | Fax: (65) 6256 1366 | www.acsbr.moe.edu.sg/
Possible Considerations for ACSJ and ACSP Parents
1. With the increase in percentage of students that ACSBR can take in via Direct School Admission (DSA) to 20% (up to 56 places per cohort), ACSJ and ACSP students can choose to gain admission to ACSBR through one of sport, performing arts or clubs and societies CCAs (19 areas)
2. Students who are placed in the stream option bands (Express/NA or NA/NT) should choose the less rigorous stream in order to have a higher probability of gaining entry into ACSBR
