With “Campbell’s Tomato Soup”, Andy Warhol transformed a tin can filled with ready-to-serve soup into a modern icon of our time. The idea of using a famous brand name to produce a series of paintings with a monotonous, seem-ingly mechanically reproduced motif was to become the artistic principle behind pop art. Now Rosenthal has used this work of art to decorate porcelain and glass.

Mit „Campbell`s Tomato Soup“ schuf Andy Warhol aus einer Konservendose verzehr-fertiger Suppe eine moderne Ikone unserer Zeit. Die Idee, eine Serie von Gemälden mit einem monotonen, technisch reproduziert wirkenden Motiv unter Hinzufügung eines bekannten Markennamens herzustellen, sollte zum künstlerischen Prinzip der Pop Art werden. Rosenthal hat dieses Kunstwerk nun auf Porzellan und Glas gebracht.

»Format Unsealed«

Mit »Format« gestaltete der Designer Christophe de la Fontaine eine auf den kla-ren Grundformen der Architektur basieren-de moderne Geschirrserie für die Rosenthal studio-line. In Zusammenarbeit mit der jungen Designerin Inesa Malafej ist nun ein Dekor aus einfachen, sich wiederholen-den grafischen Elementen entstanden, das Form, Farbe und Anmutung des Porzellans nicht verhüllt, sondern unterstreicht.

The designer Christophe de la Fontaine has created »Format«, a modern tableware range for Rosenthal studio-line based on strong basic shapes. In collaboration with Inesa Malafej, a young designer, a pattern consisting of sim-ple, repetitive graphical elements has been de-signed that emphasises the shape, colour and feel of the porcelain, rather than disguising it.

Legend has it that Japan’s oldest tea house is located on the road between Nara and Kyoto. Fascinated by this location, the Italian designer Federica Capitani was inspired to create a minimalist tea collection. All items feature a harmonious look thanks to the subtle use of their material and their gentle, round shapes. Available in three different sizes, the delicate drinking vessels with the dotted relief design sit perfectly in the hand. Accessories of bamboo emphasise the ceremonial character of the set.

Auf der Straße zwischen Nara und Kyoto gibt es einer Legende nach das älteste Tee-geschäft Japans. In Asian culture, an entire ceremony is dedi-cated to the art of brewing and drinking tea. It is an opportunity for inner reflection, celebrates leisure and is kept deliberately simple. These ideas are also reflected in the »Wan« (chin. bowl) tea set designed by Sebastian Herkner. The clear, round shapes of the individual piec-es embrace these aspects and catch your eye thanks to their concise clear lines, fine materi-al, understated elegance and the combination with glass (saucer, teapot lid).

Der Kunst des Teebrühens und -trinkens wird in der asiatischen Kultur eine ganze Zeremonie gewidmet. Sie dient der inneren Einkehr, zelebriert Muße und wird bewusst schlicht abgehalten. Anklänge daran nimmt auch das von Sebastian Herkner entworfene Teeset »Wan« (chin. »Wan«

The extravagant »Collana« collection of vases, designed by Sebastian Herkner, incorporates a refined fusion of traditional artisanal techniques employed in porcelain and glass production. The four white, conical porcelain vases made from unglazed biscuit porcelain and a glazed rim in white, silver or gold feature a tinted, hand-blown glass embellishment around the neck in either a satined, grey, turquoise or red finish. This allows for skilful variation of the impact generated by the object to suit the atmosphere and table or living arrangement.

In der extravaganten Vasenkollektion »Collana« von Sebastian Herkner verschmelzen die tradi-tionellen Handwerkstechniken der Porzellan- und Glasherstellung auf raffinierte Weise. Vier konische weiße Porzellanvasen aus Biskuit-porzellan mit einem Rand in weiß, silber oder gold tragen ein Collier aus mundgeblasenem und getöntem Glas – wahlweise in satiniert, grau, türkis und rot. The extravagant »Collana« collection of vases, designed by Sebastian Herkner, incorporates a refined fusion of traditional artisanal techniques employed in porcelain and glass production. The four white, conical porcelain vases made from unglazed biscuit porcelain and a glazed rim in white, silver or gold feature a tinted, hand-blown glass embellishment around the neck in either a satined, grey, turquoise or red finish. This allows for skilful variation of the impact generated by the object to suit the atmosphere and table or living arrangement.

In der extravaganten Vasenkollektion »Collana« von Sebastian Herkner verschmelzen die tradi-tionellen Handwerkstechniken der Porzellan- und Glasherstellung auf raffinierte Weise. Vier konische weiße Porzellanvasen aus Biskuit-porzellan mit einem Rand in weiß, silber oder gold tragen ein Collier aus mundgeblasenem und getöntem Glas – wahlweise in satiniert, grau, türkis und rot. So lässt sich die Wir-kung der Vasen je nach Stimmung und Tisch- oder Wohnarrangement gekonnt und flexibel variieren.

Designer Sebastian Herkner loves the skilful interplay of materials, surfaces and produc-tion techniques. He has succeeded in creating a design that is particularly captivating in this respect with the »Falda« vase. The simple, bul-bous vase made from biscuit porcelain with its velvety surface and pleated collar with a gold-en titanium coating is reminiscent of Art Deco objects. However, the appearance of the collar is a digital interpretation of this time thanks to its precise folding.

Designer Sebastian Herkner liebt das ge-konnte Zusammenspiel von Material, Ober-fläche und Fertigungstechnik. Ein in dieser Hinsicht ganz besonders reizvolles Design ist ihm mit der Vase »Falda« gelungen. Die schlichte, bauchige Vase aus Biskuit-Porzel-lan erinnert mit ihrer samtenen Oberfläche und dem plissierten, hochwertigen gold- titanisierten Kragen an Objekte des Art déco. Jedoch ist die Anmutung des Kragens durch seine präzise Faltung eine digitale Interpretation ihrer Zeit.

»Love Love«

»PILA«

The three »PILA« object vases from designer Hanna Krüger are an unusual assemblage of dif-ferent plates from Rosenthal’s studio-line. Stacks of plates normally arise either without any particu-lar thought or for purely pragmatic purposes, for example if they’re in the sink waiting to be washed up or stored in the cupboard. The »PILA« (Italian for stack) design demonstrates that the combina-tion of forms, stories and times can also give rise to a whole new aesthetic dimension.

Die Vasenobjekte der Designerin Hanna Krüger sind eine ungewöhnliche Assemblage unter-schiedlicher Teller der Rosenthal studio-line. Tellerstapel entstehen im Alltag meist unbeab-sichtigt und mit pragmatischer Absicht: Zum Abwasch aufgetürmt in der Spüle oder zum Verstauen im Geschirrschrank. Der Entwurf »PILA«, italienisch für Stapel, zeigt, dass das Aufeinandertreffen von Formen, Geschichten und Zeiten auch eine ganz neue ästhetische Dimension entwickeln kann.
