Student Expectations

Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

All students at Mellon Middle School are required to adhere to the following four basic rules regarding bullying.

I will not bully others.

I will help others who are being bullied.

I will include others who are left out.

I will tell an adult when I see someone bullying.

Regularly scheduled Tuesday class meetings will address the topic of bullying throughout the school year.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to success at school

Homeroom teacher and dashboard to answer initial questions

If absent, submit excuse to homeroom teacher

Reasons: Illness, Medical Appointment, Court Appearance—see handbook for additional reasons

Must be on-time to school and class

Reasons: Same as for absences

No more than 3 unexcused tardies per semester

Attendance

Initial record of absence in Dashboard will be UNV (Unverified)

After excuse is submitted record will be changed to EXC (Excused)

Each student is required to submit a written excuse within 10 days of their return or the absence will be reported as unexcused.

Pre-Approved Absences

Up to 5 days may be approved

Generally, will not be approved during standardized testing

Pre-approved absence forms are available on our website under “form center” or in the Attendance Office. Preapproved absence forms are to be submitted five days prior to an absence.

Attendance Early Dismissals

When possible parents/guardians are encouraged to schedule appointments before or after school hours.

Students must have a written excuse on the day that they wish to be excused prior to dismissal.

We will not be having a formal fundraiser for the PTA. We have found that that most families would prefer

to make a onetime donation rather than sell items for a fundraiser.

Quite simply, we need a minimum donation of $25 per student to cover the cost of our

programs and services.
