Governor directs opening of a District Level Science Centre at Mayabunder In the 3rd General body meeting of Science Centre held on 4th March 2015 at Raj Niwas, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor as President General body issued directions to improve the facilities of Science Centre so that number of visitors visiting Science Centre increases to augment the centre’s revenue. Accordingly the Science Centre took various actions to improve the quality of exhibits and added a number of new programmes which has resulted in improving the visitors percentage by 88% & enhanced revenue generation by 90%. In order to promote innovation in Science by the budding talents of these islands, an “Innovation Hub” has been sanctioned at a cost of 1.8 crore fully funded by Govt. of India which shall be implemented through the National council of Science Museums, Kolkata. Science Centre is also planning to add Time Machine (Simulator) to its facilities which will increase foot fall. Further decision was taken to establish a District Level Science Centre at Mayabunder to benefit the rural populace on priority. The project cost will be 6 crore of which 90% shall be funded by Govt. of India. The National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata has been entrusted with the task of developing Science Centre at Mayabunder.

Lt. Governor directs opening of a District Level Science Centre at Mayabunder

Online Food Licensing/Registration system (FLRS)

The Government of India enacted Food Safety and Standards Act, (FSS Act, 2006) to regulate and monitor the manufacture, process, pack, transport, store, distribute, sell and import of any food or food ingredient, so as to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and also to laying down science based standards.

FSS Regulations Gazette Notified on 5th August, 2011, mandates that every Food Business Operator (FBO) must obtain License/ Registration Certificate.

Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has created a Centralized Online System for FBO – License/Registration for use across the country, with the assistance of National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad.

The online license and registration system is being inaugurated by the Secretary (Health), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Smti. Rashmi Krishnan, IAS, at 05:00 PM in presence of Shri. Rakesh Chandra Sharma, Director (Enforcement), FSSAI, and Shri. Sridhar D., General Manager, NISG.

The UT of Andaman & Nicobar has adopted the centralized Online System for FBO –License/Registration and today (18th

December, 2015), is happy to announce launch of Online License/Registration services for Food business operators in South Andaman district. All the Food business Operators can avail of the services for Licensing/Registration by logging onto the website:http://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in. Alternatively, they can access www.fssai.gov.in and logon to FLRS link provided in the site.

This online Food Licensing/Registration system (FLRS) enables the Food business operators at their comfort check for eligibility, apply for License/registration, pay the appropriate fees, upload supporting documents, track the status of their applications License/Registration status, schedule inspections and receive alerts on the status and renewals.Food business operators are encouraged to create their online user accounts to continue to receive SMS, e-mail alerts from authority.

Effective today no manual issuance of license and registration certificates in the district of South Andaman.

All the Food Business Operators are requested to avail the online services for License/Registration and comply with the provisions of FSS Act, 2006.

Flower Show competition at ITF Ground

As a part of Island Tourism Festival 2016, the Department of Agriculture in association with National Horticulture Mission will be organizing ‘Flower Show’ in the ITF Ground. During the Flower Show, competitions will be held for various categories viz. Fresh and Dry Flower Arrangement, Flat Bouquets, Garland, Rangoli along with display of Potted plants. Besides this, a competition will be held for awarding “Best Flower Grower” from South Andaman District.

The farmers/participants who wish to participate in the competitions can make arrangements to display their quality exhibits and get recognition through awards. The application form for enrollment of participants will be available at HVA Cell, Directorate of Agriculture, Zonal Agriculture Officer, Goalghar and Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat on all working hours from 23rd December 2015 onwards.
