ANCIENT ROMAN TIME OF PEACE
Part 4
Roman PeaceAfter the Gallic Wars, the Roman Empire did not invade other lands and they did not have people after them either since they had proven their strength. This time of peace was known as Pax Romana.
During The Time of PeaceDuring Pax Romana, there were positive changes to lifestyles, population growth, and prosperity for all people. There was also an introduction of new ideas and inventions.
InfrastructuresThe Romans were amazing builders and the structures they built are impressive, even to this day.
Roman RoadsAs the empire grew, so did trade. A road system was needed to allow access to all areas . It was used to transport troops, goods, money and messages. The Romans built nearly 90000km of flagstone roads and 20000km of secondary roads. They were protected by the legionaries.
AqueductsRomans invented the first system of running water. Aqueducts were made to transport water from the mountains to houses, baths and institutions.
The aqueducts were constructed on a slant to allow the water to flow to wherever it was needed
TradeTrading posts were set up in many locations, which led to a lot of trade activity. The provinces used the roads made to transport their goods. They exported most of it to Rome where the richest people lived. Natural resources, slaves and products were supplied through trade.
TaxesTaxes were used to pay for the army, public service and to pay civil servants. Any slave rebels of Rome were taxed. The taxes were collected and also used to pay for food and entertainment for those who did not work. This plan was set up to prevent rebellions from happening.
