D ear brothers and sisters in Christ, Our annual meeting was well attended and, thanks to Andy Quintana and crew, breakfast was a big hit. We are grateful for all who served! Those who were elected to the vestry this year are David Kaufmann, Courtney Brown, Tony Safi, and Greg Carameros. Since January, we have had twelve meetings at vari- ous members’ homes called, “Desserts Around Town,” which were attended by one or both of the wardens and a member of the vision team. The goal was to share both results of the parish survey, and the progress of the vision team, and to ask for additional feedback from you regarding both. We received hundreds of responses from you and took notes at all the meetings, which are being compiled and will be reviewed on our upcoming vestry retreat on March 4-5. The vision team will resume its work of finalizing our work after having received your input, so that we may share it publically and begin the imple- mentation phase. Discipleship In my sermon for the annual meeting, I mentioned that one of the main themes that the vision team has been hearing from God is the need for and increased empha- sis on “discipleship” in our church community. What is discipleship? It is what Jesus modeled and then commanded the apostles to do in Matthew 28:18-20: To quote Pastor John Piper on the subject: • Every Christian should be helping unbelievers be- come believers by showing them Christ; that is, making a disciple, and; • Every Christian should be helping other believers grow to more and more maturity. That is making a disciple, and; • Every Christian should be seeking to get help for themselves from others to keep on growing. And that is also our discipleship, and; • Every church should think through how all of these kinds of biblical disciple-making find expression in their corporate life. We want to encourage everyone that is part of the St. Clement’s community to consider being part of a discipleship group, so that together we can grow in the Lord, and help others to come to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you are interested in this, please call or email the church office. CHILDREN’S CORNER Rachel Degenhart, Children’s Ministry Director

This Easter, let’s give Jesus all that he died for; let’s live in the totality of what he paid for on the cross and in his resurrection. Let us step into our identity and live a supernatural life like that which he modeled for us while he walked this earth. Please enjoy this post by Bill Johnson entitled “You Were Born for the Impossible…”The reason God didn’t take you take you to be with Him when you were born again is because you have the divine assignment to invade the impossible. The reality of the Christian life is measured by the impact on the impossible.Much of what we give God credit for can be done by the Kawanis Club. I’m don’t mean God is not involved, I’m just saying all it is doing is tapping into human talent to accomplish what mankind can accomplish. What satisfaction is there in human accomplishment? There is some, but it’s not really lasting. It’s nothing like having cancer disappear. It’s nothing like the mother that lost the use of one arm to an accident – lost three inches of bone. She couldn’t grasp, couldn’t raise her arm; she couldn’t pick up her two year old because of this surgery. She had five surgeries in four and a half years. There was nothing like watching a lady pray for her and watching God add the three inches of bone, adding all movement, all feeling, everything! Then she goes to pick up her two year old and her little girl says “No mommy, broken arm” because that’s all she has heard her whole life. To then see her say to her little girl, “No, it’s ok now.”All the buildings I could build, all the money I could raise seem suddenly insignificant in the moment of seeing that little girl held by her mother. I’ll take that over a million buildings. And that’s who you are! You were born into this family, the actual Spirit of the resurrected Christ took up residence in us. He’s in us and He wants out!

We would like to have a Jewish Seder meal with you and your family. A Seder meal is “a ceremo-nial dinner…in commemoration of the exodus from Egypt.” “The Seder is more than just a meal. The word “Seder” means “order.” Thus the Seder is a very orderly, structured event complete with a script of readings and prayers, intertwined with songs and actions. There are specific foods prepared in specific ways.” Traditionally these are more adult in nature but we are going to make this “kid friendly.” Please plan to join us for this event. It will be an interactive dinner with a drama, explanations and children participation. It will be a fun and also learning time.

MARCH 2016- THE ANCHOR-PAGE 3

February has been a busy month! We’ve had a few exciting things happen as well as something to look forward to. This month we started training another student leader to join our team for Youth Group. As our group has been growing it has been so cool to watch different kids step up into leadership and to see the gifts God has given them.

Our new student leader is Sebastien Macias, he has been leading worship with Adam Drake for the past few months and has a burning passion for the Lord. We have also started our new topic for the semester; Looking Deeper into the Bible. Throughout the semester, we plan on teaching our teenagers more and more about the Word of God, how to read it, how to understand it and what to do with it. We’re excited to see where it goes! Lastly, we have our annual Spring Break Outreach that the church hosts (Kings Kids runs the program) and we attend! This has been a place for our students to encounter God for the first time and been a great way to build community within our group as well. The dates will be March 6-11 and the pricing is $150 per student, there are scholarships available! Money is not a reason to not attend. If you have any questions, give our Admin/Intern, Kristie Shinn, a call at (443) 235-1861.

Blessings,

Youth Ministry Team

I have always been im-pressed by the quality of the teachers who choose to teach at St. Clement’s School. Over the years it has become more clear that our faculty chooses

St. Clement’s for the following reasons. At St. Clement’s, teachers are free to teach their curriculum without the burden and stresses of state mandated testing. Teachers are free to teach at their own pace most conducive for learning of the children in the classroom rather than having to keep a state regulated schedule and sequence for presenting specific concepts. We know that children learn in different ways and each at their own pace. Our teachers are free to pace their curriculum most suitable for effective teach-ing and learning of the children in the classroom. Because we are not regulated by mandated timelines, our teachers are free to make learning a fun and enjoyable experience.

Teachers also have the luxury of giving more time and attention to individual students because of the lower number of students in each class. We make a concerted effort to keep our teacher to student ratio low for that very purpose, and in this way our students have a much greater chance of success. Teachers at St. Clement’s are free to give a hug if needed or wipe a tear or pray with a child. Teachers are free to overlook a grade because a child’s pet passed away or some other kind of distress. It is clear that students and parents trust their teachers. Teachers at St. Clement’s school are greatly appreciated. They give so much effort for their students. They give up the opportunity for a much higher compensation and benefits than they could receive elsewhere. Their loyalty to the school is unsurpassed and our turnover rate of teachers is very low.I feel fortunate to work with our faculty and I feel that our community is fortunate as well.

February was a great month full of activity.Kids Create had a wonderful

time celebrating “Galentine’s Day.” They started the day with a wonderful brunch, an outing for ice cream and lots of laughter. The kids and leaders had a great time talking, hanging out together, and crafting. We feel so blessed to have a great group of young ladies to get to know.

Launch Pad has been busy this month too. We have been at the climbing wall, making slime and learning about Ash Wednesday. Our Ash Wednesday service include writing down our sins, burning them and creating an ash cross. We’re praying that the kids will understand more about Jesus as we continue to talk about His story as we lead up to Easter.

Equipping leaders is a foundation of Ciudad Nueva. This year we have 2 high school students helping leading the middle school program. We are so blessed by their desire to get to know the younger kids and invest in a program they hold dear. We also have 2 middle school students who are learning to lead Launch Pad kids in small activities. They are also spending time getting to know the younger students by helping them with homework and engaging them in activities such as doing puzzles, playing games and talking.

Greetings from the Border Fellows! It’s hard to be believe the spring semester is halfway done! The Fellows continue to amaze me with their love for our church community and the families in our neighborhood. Each day, they are pouring themselves out on behalf of others as they grow professionally, continue to give their time and love to the neighborhood around St. Clement’s, and develop their faith as they learn what it means to love God and our neighbor.

Even though they will be embarrassed, I am going to brag on them a bit here because you need to know how amazing they are! Did you know the Fellows take a graduate level theology class every Friday morning? Together, we explore a theological approach to inequality, migration and the Gospel. For his end of term paper, Simon wrote about what scripture says concerning immigrants, and explored how the church in El Paso responds to the immigrant population. Megan, who teaches ESL at St. Clement’s English Speaking Center, wrote a paper exploring dialogue as the best educational method for the classroom. Our fellows are BRIGHT, with a heart to love and bless others with the passion and gifts God has given them. Make sure to ask them about their papers next time you see them!

Recruitment is underway for next year’s class of fellows. We already have one confirmed fellow for the fall and are re-ceiving applications and conducting interviews for more. Our prayer is for 4-6 Fellows in the fall of 2016. As we focus on recruiting and finishing our current year, would you pray about how you can be involved in the Fellows program? Perhaps you want to mentor an incoming fellow, take our current fellows to dinner or a ball game, or host a fellow next year. St. Clement’s has an incredible opportunity to help shape future generations of Christ followers through this program, and I am thankful for how you have loved and supported each young person who has come to El Paso in past years. We can’t do it without you. THANK YOU!

Love,Megan FeuilleBorder Fellows Director

Parents - if you have not already met her, you must come and visit with our Children’s Librarian, Pat Garven! Pat is an educator, formerly a teacher at St. Clements School. She is also very well read. She also really knows her Bible, and taught Precepts here for several years. Pat would love to show you what we have for your children. We are con-stantly adding new books for young readers and for those who are not yet reading. These are all written for Christians, and they are wonderful! Please, bring your children in and help them make a selection from our collection - you, they, and we will be very happy! We also have some excellent chapter books, and books for adolescents. Pat is in the 8:30 choir, and she volunteers in the library every Tuesday morning. And for the rest of you - we still have some excellent Lenten devotionals to help you get more out of this holy season. Please drop by and check one out.

THE STEPHEN MINISTER TRAINEES ARE HARD AT WORK.

Our intrepid band of new Stephen Minister Trainees are having a great time getting to know what makes each other laugh and also hard at work every Tuesday night and sometimes on Saturday, until May 21st. By learning to LISTEN DEEPLY to others, they are being equipped to “rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn,” Rom 12:15. They are also learning what is and is not DISTINCTIVELY CHRISTIAN CAREGIVING. The Clergy sits with us some of the time, providing perspective and comments. Pray for us as we learn a variety of ways to love... as You, Father, are loving us.
