General Visual Style:

The general style of the film will be quite ominous and low lit but will also contain anumber of subtle, usually vibrant, colours such as a range of pinks, blues, reds and possiblygreens. The stylistic design level is quite high in terms of visual approach with the use of small

lights, such as fairy lights, which will accompany the main tungsten and moonlight balancedframes throughout the film. This will display a looming in the shadow type mood for eachindividual scene while maintaining a flow of the chosen palette.

A reference point I have selected is the Showtime TV Series Dexter. Here are some examples:

Location 1: House

1. The interior should not quite match the exterior. They should have a contrast. The interiorI pictured as somewhat classic, with the exterior a modern/suburban look.

2. Another idea is that they live in a big, mansion style house possibly inherited from Jeffsparents.

Location 2: Jazz Bar

^This place is unfortunately located in NYC. But these images can be used as agood reference point to an idea of the low light feeling and mood that I want tocapture in this scene. The pinks in these images have a really nice look and thecontrast of blues and a small amount of tungsten balanced lights would lookfantastic on camera.

This is a scene from the film Collateral (Dir. Micharl Mann), which takes place in ajazz club. I love the style of the heavy, almost engulfing, blue palette on the mainstage, with the contrast of yellows and oranges on the centralised characters.(Yes, the video clip is in Italian, but it is the best quality video I could find).

Location 3: Art Gallery

The art gallery is described as: A modern stern building with odd architecture on theinside. A post-modern feel, vintage mixed with contemporary.Higher light than other scenes, a strong emphasis on Lindsays work. Some examples:

I pictured the shed as wooden and red (I would prefer wood, but tin is also an option).Large enough for a kill room, but not over burdening the yard.

Key characteristics: Self-conscious but determined to succeed. Lindsay is atroubled individual that has let an obsession completely overtake his life andeveryday thought. He lives to find the perfect painting and continually fails in hisattempts. Lindsay self-harms in order to cope with the intense feeling of failureand self-loathing. He is ashamed of this problem though, and conceals it at allcosts. Lindsay is an introverted character. He prefers not to be in social situationsand is quite awkward when he is.

Key characteristics:Jeff is an extroverted character. He is confident in social situations and has the

ability to replicate normal human behaviour to a tee. Jeff is a narcissist, he only cares forthings that concern himself, and external factors do not interest him. He engages ineveryday behaviour to mask his true self. Jeff is a serial killer who has an extreme lack ofempathy. He shows no remorse for his victims. Jeff has a strong ability to manipulatepeople into doing things they thought they would never do, often leading them to his killroom. This manipulation is accompanied by his charm and charisma; he can talk his wayinto and out of pretty much anything.
