EDITORIAL
Cleanliness is a vital part of what makes a living environment attractive. Populations are
becoming increasingly urbanised. Towns and cities are more and more densely popu-
lated, and extensive zones are dedicated to pedestrians. Consequently, urban waste
volumes are rising as the resources to deal with them are constricting.
The urban property industry is conscious of this issue and has developed to provide solutions.
Rather than pouring resources into cleaning, we are setting the stage for cleaner towns and cities,
by installing street furniture and waste management solutions and adapting practices to achieve
an acceptable level of waste, based on cleanliness objective indicators.

AN ELECTRONIC TERMINALAn area on the container has been designed to house an electronic terminal. This terminal measures the i-Jumbo fill level.
AN i-JUMBOThe i-Jumbo is a buried 750 L waterproof container in galvanised steel.It is fitted with two handling rings.
A SUCTION HATCHThe suction hatch is made of galvanised steel. It features a non-slip surface and an automatic lock.
A LITTER BIN The litter bin is fixed
to the i-Jumbo by a connecting ring.

PROCESSING OF RESULTS
> The platform is also a powerful statistical tool. At the end of each collection round, statistical data for the round (number of jumbos visited, weight of waste collected, time taken to collect, etc.) is entered into the database to be analysed and used to ad-just the local authority’s clean-liness plan.
DATA AVAILABLEThe i-Jumbo platform stores the data for all the i-Jumbos installed:
> Location of i-Jumbo
> Current i-Jumbo fill levels
> Type of equipment installed
DATA PROCESSING
> The platform uses this information to suggest alert and alarm thresholds. These thresholds can be set by the local authority.
> The platform can also create an optimised collection round based on a variety of parameters, adjusted by the local authority.
> The round generated takes into account fill level, arrival and depar-ture points, an intermediate collec-tion point, traffic speed, etc.
Following initial configuration by Sineu Graff, operators manage the i-Jumbo platform entirely independently, and can create different user accounts, divide the area covered into a number of zones, set alarm and alert thresholds and modify them to accommodate events being organised by the council.

i-Jumbo are emptied mechanically. Waste is collected via a suction system, by connecting
a vacuum roadsweeper to the collection hatch.
A vacuum hose is fixed to the roadsweeper. It ensures optimal emptying by guiding the waste.

3/ MECANISED COLLECTION
> To achieve optimal suction, the diameter of the hose should be at least 180 mm and ideally 200 mm.
> On average, a i-Jumbo can be emptied in less than 3 minutes (opening the hatch, emptying and closing the hatch).
> A 5 m3 roadsweeper has the capacity to collect waste from 26 Jumbos.

GUARANTEE SERVICE QUALITY
> Daily i-Jumbo fill level information can be used to empty containers in advance to maximise service avai-lability levels across the town or city’s waste collection equipment.
AFFIRM THE ROLE OF STAFF
> When emptying Jumbo, staff have no direct contact with waste and are not required to lift heavy loads. Consequently, working conditions are improved and tasks completed by staff tasks have more perceived value.
OPTIMISE RESOURCES
> The i-Jumbo multiplies the volume of litter bins by 10, so less collection rounds are needed.
> With the i-Jumbo, local authorities make better use of their resources by writing collection team sche-dules based on actual data rather than pre-set frequencies.
> Only one staff member is needed to empty the i-Jumbo, freeing up the rest of the cleansing team for other tasks.
ANALYSE
> Information collected by the i-Jumbo contributes to the town or city’s cleanliness audit. It provides factual information on which to base a cleanliness plan.
