Congratulations to Mrs Felton and the Year 2/3 students for their timely reminder of Eating Healthy, Sleeping Well, Building Friendships, and staying active. Excellent advice all presented at the fine Whole School Assembly on Thursday. Highly evident on the day was the growth demonstrated in these students in just 6 months. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the start of school for students on 17th July. My thanks to all our wonderful staff for a powerful term – fulfilling at so many levels. Enjoy the holiday break everyone as we prepare for a big second half of the year. Regards Regards, Kim Pitts-Hill Principal DEPUTY NEWS

EduDance Concert – Tuesday, 26th June Thank you to all the parents that came along to watch the EduDance Concert. I’m sure you would all agree that it was a fabulous effort from all participants. 2018 represents the first time our Kindy students have participated in EduDance. The Kindy students showed their moving and grooving skills during their performance in the morning, which was followed by a parent morning tea. School Photos – Tuesday, 24th July Our annual whole school photos are scheduled for the second week of Term 3. Please click on the link below to access their website for pricing and packs. Parent envelopes will be handed out to students on the first day back for students, Tuesday, 17th July. http://www.3p.net.au/order-online/school-photos/ps/ Scitech Excursion During Term 3 we will be having a Kindy – Year 6 excursion to Scitech during National Science Week. for making the ever popular Pancakes and to Mr Jones, Mrs Evans and Mrs Rose also for helping out on the Mondays with the breakfasts for the students. Please be advised these students in the Interschool Team will have their first familiarisation at Butlers Reserve on the first Wednesday back of Term 3, 18th July at 2:40pm. A separate note will be given to students on their first day back of Term 3 as a reminder. Parents are to organise their own child’s transportation.

Japanese 日 本 語 news

Connect and Communicate with Nihon I am pleased to say that we have a very enthusiastic group of Year 2 and Year 3 students eager to be members of the JUNIOR TAIKO TEAM. We are using smaller bachi and smaller Taiko than our senior Taiko team. We had our first get together last Monday and next term we will continue to rehearse each Monday at lunchtimes. Team members need to bring their lunch to the Japanese room each Monday next term at 12.20pm. Nguyen sensei has kindly volunteered to assist me in rehearsals each Monday and this is a fantastic opportunity for another sensei to enjoy Taiko. I am looking forward to a Junior Taiko team who will bring their Yuluma spirit to training and performances. Whittle sensei Japanese language teacher LIBRARY NEWS

The Book Fair books are being enjoyed by many students. Next term we will be able to view the books short-listed for Children’s Book Week chosen by the CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia). We will have author Cristy Burne visiting our school on Tuesday, 21st August. She is an Australian science writer, teacher and editor, and writer of adventure fiction books for kids. She is a huge fan of STEM and STEAM and being outdoors and having adventures and has a keen passion for science. The cost for this incursion is $3 per student. We are certainly looking forward to her visit during Book Week. Book Week Dress Up Day will be held again on Thursday, 23rd August. The theme for the Book Week is ‘Find Your Treasure’ so it provides many ideas for dressing up! You could be a favourite book character, author or a treasure of sorts? A busy time coming up in Term 3 so …….. on a rainy day over the holiday break find a good book, relax and enjoy a quiet moment.

HAPPY HOLIDAY READING

CHAPLAINS CORNER Hi Yuluma Families What a great term this has been. As Chaplain I have continued to help out with guided reading in Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes this term. It is such a good way to get to know the students, and it is rewarding to see them developing in their reading and comprehension skills as well. We have started a lunch time program with Mrs Burrell for the Year 6 students, which has been going very well. Students enjoy participating and are developing their social skills. My regular pastoral contact with students across various year levels has continued. I have enjoyed meeting some of our wonderful Kindy parents at the morning tea earlier this week and can’t believe that I have been at Yuluma Primary School for over a year now. I really feel a part of this great community and I look forward to the second half of this year. Many thanks for all your support and I hope you have a happy and safe holiday. Congratulations to Skye and Eden for being awarded our Aussies of the Month.

Virtue of the Fortnight

Self-Discipline

Self-Discipline means self-control. It is getting yourself to do what you really want to do, rather than being tossed around by your feelings like a leaf in the wind. You don’t lose control of yourself when you feel hurt or

angry, but decide how you are going to talk and what you are going to do. With self-discipline, you take charge of yourself.

AFFIRMATION I have self-discipline. I use my time well and get things done. I choose my actions with detachment.
