College News ACN is situated within the Health Care Campus

in a separate building with excellent laboratory and classroom facilities. Apart from the parent hospital, the students are having an opportunity to get practical training in the well-equipped labs with the most advanced technology. The total area of the college is 70487.2 Sq feet. The examination hall of the college can accommodate 250 students. The Nursing College Library has around 6000 text books, Journals, both Indian and foreign and internet facilities with online databases. The library timing extends from 8.00 am till 11.30 pm. There is also a central library located in the health science campus to which the students and faculty have the access. This is a college among the very few having a well-equipped Language Lab. This enables the students to develop their language skills which is very essential for their career mobility.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has outlined several university - wide policies with regard to research

and projects. Thrust Area Groups have been formed to promote research activities. University supports faculty and student research through seed grant. Institution also sponsors faculty for attending and presenting papers in national or international conferences. The number of faculty attending conferences were also comparatively higher in second quarter of the year than the first.

Prof.Prasannakumari, Joint Director of Nursing Education, Kerala, interacting with M.Sc. Nursing Students on 06/4/16. The recent innovations in nursing education were the key topic of discussion. PG board of studies was held on 06/04/2016 for curriculum modification. All the members of curriculum committee were attended during the session. Swami Poornaamridananda Puri addressing 4th Year B.Sc. Nursing Students about the importance implementing moral values in professional and personal life.

STUDENT NEWS

The overall mood in the college of nursing was pretty sombre in the months of May – June as students put aside

their fun and frolic and became engrossed in their studies. However there were a few co-curricular activities which

keep the students refreshed.

Class committee meetings for all batches of Amrita College of Nursing were conducted during the months of April and May 2016 to identify the issues related to curricular and extracurricular activities.

Prof.Dr.P.Chitra, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing has received “Rashtriya Gaurav award” certificate of excellence for meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role by India International Friendship Society (IIFS) on June 9th 2016 at New Delhi.

Prof.Dr. P Chitra had also received 'Inspirational Nurse Leader' Award during International Nurses Day Celebrations-16' at AIMS for “Maximum Number of Research Publications” on 26th May 2016.

Nursing was bestowed the Inspirational Nurse Leader award for creating awareness through his literary works in the field of health on 26th June 2016.He has more than hundred articles to his credit in leading health magazines in Malayalam.

Ms.Shiney Williams and Ms.Athira P Nair receiving prizes for winning the essay competition conducted nationwide by Sri Ramakrishna Math. For the last several years students of Amrita College of Nursing have been actively participating in this competition and winning prizes.

Glory of India Gold Medal' also called 'Bharat Jyoti' was presented to Prof.Dr. P Chitra for

Individual Excellence in recognition of Sterling Merit excellent performance and outstanding contribution for the progress of Nation & Worldwide by International Institute of Success awareness (IISA) on 9th June 2016 at New Delhi.

The Alumni executive committee meeting for the year

2016 was held on 8th June. In order to foster co-

operation and keep in touch with our past students, the

alumni executives decided to hold annual alumni meets,

publish a yearly newsletter and create an alumni registry.

It was also decided to hold executive committee

meetings once in every three months.

Department of Medical Surgical Nursing for three years. Life

OBSERVANCE WORLD HEALTH DAY -16

The spotlight of the function was invited talks from experts in the field. Dr. Beena K V, Senior Administrator& Public Health Consultant, AIMS delivered an educational session on 'Prevention of Diabetes' Dr. Sreejith S Nair, Administrative Medical Officer,

Amrita Community Health Training Centre,

Njarackal enlightened the audience on

'Epidemiology of Diabetes'. This was followed by a

panel discussion by I year M.Sc. Nursing students

on 'Beat diabetes- Nursing perspective'.

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY-16

This year's Nurses' day was commemorated on

12.5.16 by revealing the theme-“Nurses: a force for

change: improving health systems’ resilience'.

The panel discussion delved on various topics

related to the theme such as strengths and

weaknesses of the Indian health care delivery

system,institutional resilience personal resilience

followed by an open discussion.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MIDWIVES -16 International Day of Midwives was observed on

12.05.2016. The theme of the day - 'Women and

Newborns: The Heart of Midwifery' was revealed

by Dr.Lekha Viswanath, Associate Professor and

Head, Department of OBG Nursing The fourth year B.Sc Nursing students

brightened the programme with a Mime show.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY International Yoga day was observed on June 21st by the students and Staff of Amrita College of Nursing.
