4.1 Description of first aid measures

4.1.1 General information : General first aid measures should be followed. In case of

persistent adverse effects, seek immediate medical attention.Remove contaminated clothing and shoes promptly, and washthoroughly before re-use.

4.1.2 Following inhalation : NOTE: Reports have associated repeated and prolongedoccupational overexposure to solvents with permanent brainand nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberatelyconcentrating and inhaling the contents may be harmful or fatal.

: Emergency responders should use positive air suppliedrespiratory protection when removing the victim from area.

Remove person to fresh air. If not breathing, administer CPRuntil help arrives, or the victim starts to breathe on their own.Give artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Seek medicalattention immediately.

4.1.3 Following skin contact : If exposure occurs, immediately flush the affected areathoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Use soap ifavailable. Remove contaminated clothing, including shoes, afterflushing has begun. Wash clothing before re-use. If irritationpersists, seek medical attention.

4.1.4 Following eye contact : Immediately flush affected eye with water for at least 20minutes. ilt the head to prevent chemical from transferring tothe unaffected eye. Seek medical attention without delay afterflushing.

4.1.5 Following ingestion : DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING if swallowed. Rinse mouth outwith water. Dilute with milk or water. Never give anything todrink if the victim is unconscious or having convulsions. Seekmedical attention immediately. Contact Poison Control Center atonce.

4.1.6 Self protection of the first aider : Appropriate personal protective attire should be worn.

4.1.7 Note to the doctor : Suitable medical intervention should be provided based onsymptoms.

4.2 Most important symptoms and : Irritating to eyes, skin, and respiratory tract upon exposure. Higheffects, both acute and delayed vapour concentrations are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and

lungs; may cause unconsciousness or other signs of centralnervous system depression. Frequent or prolonged skin contactmay irritate the skin and cause skin rash (dermatitis). May causeskin sensitization, an allergic reaction which becomes evident onre-exposure to this material. Small amounts of this liquid may bedrawn into the lungs by either swallowing or vomiting. This maycause severe and delayed health effects such as inflammation ofthe lungs (pulmonary edema) and infection of the bronchi

(bronchopneumonia). Ingestion may cause irritation of digestivetrack and diarrhea.

4.3 Indication of any immediate : Always get immediate medical attention/advice when symptomsmedical attention and special persist.treatment needed

    5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Fire Fighting Measures : The following applies to 3-ButanoneFLASHPOINT: 26oFSPECIFC GRAVITY: 0.806 @ 68o FEXPLOSIVE LIMITS: LEL: 1.8%, UEL: 11.0%.

    AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE: 961.0oF.

    5.1 Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media : Either allow fire to burn out under controlled conditions, orextinguish with alcohol type or all purpose type foam, or drychemical powder. Try to cover liquid spills with appropriatefoam. Use water spray to cool fire exposed surfaces. Avoidspraying water directly into storage containers due to danger ofboilover. Shut off fuel to fire if possible to do so without hazard. If a spill has not ignited, use water spray to disperse the vapours.

Unsuitable extinguishing media : Do not use high volume water jet.

5.2 Special hazards arising from : Flammable liquid; may release vapours that form flammablethe mixture mixtures when temperatures are at or above the flash point.

There is a danger of explosion when container is heated or infire. Toxic gases will form upon combustion. Vapour maymay accumulate in low or confined areas or travel to aconsiderable distance to a source of ignition and flash back.Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches.

Hazardous combustion products : Smoke, fumes, oxides of carbon, irritating or toxic vapours orgases.

    5.3 Advice for fire-fighters

Protective equipment for : Respiratory and eye protection gear is required for firefire fighters fighting personnel. Full protective equipment (Bunker Gear)

and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) should beused for all indoor fires and any significant outdoor fires. Useportable fire extinguisher for small outdoor fires. Use of SCBAmay not be required.

5.4 Additional information : Exposure to decomposition products may cause healthhazards. Cool containers exposed to fire with water spray.Move unexposed containers from fire area if this can be donewithout risk.

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures6.1.1 For non-emergency personnel :

Protective equipment : Wear suitable personal protective equipment (e.g. clothing, gloves, safety goggles, and mask/respirator). Ensure adequateventilation; remove all sources of ignition. Notify theappropriate authorities immediately.

Emergency procedures : Eliminate ignition source. Shut off leak if safe to do so. Takeall additional action necessary to prevent and remedy theadverse effects of the spill. Isolate hazard area and deny entryto unauthorized or unprotected personnel. Contain spilled liquidwith sand or earth. DO NOT use combustible materials such assaw dust. Absorb spill with an inert material (e.g., sand or earth). Then place in a chemical waste container.

6.1.2 For emergency responders : Respiratory and eye protection gear is required for emergencypersonal protective equipment responders. Full protective equipment (Bunker Gear) and a

self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) should be used forall indoor fires and any significant outdoor fires. Use portablefire extinguisher for small outdoor fires. Use of SCBA may notbe required.

6.2 Environmental precautions : Avoid dispersal of spilt material and runoff into soil, stormsewers and ditches which lead to natural waterways, or theimmediate environment. Inform the relevant authorities if theproduct has entered into the environment.

6.2 Methods of containment and cleaning up6.3.1 On water : If spill in water, remove from water surface by skimming

or with suitable absorbent material and place in appropriatedisposal container. If allowed by local environmentalregulatory agencies, you may use a suitable dispersant.

6.3.2 On ground/floor : Contain spill and absorb with an inert material (e.g., dry sand orearth). Then place in an appropriate waste container for disposalaccording to local regulations. Large spills should be disposed ofvia a licensed waste disposal establishment/contractor.

6.3.3 Other information : Contaminated absorbent material may pose similar hazard as thespill product.6.4 Reference to other sections

11.2 Potential adverse health effects : Small amounts of this liquid may be drawn into the lungs byeither swallowing or vomiting. This may cause severe anddelayed health effects such as inflammation of the lungs (pulmonary edema) and infection of the bronchi(broncho-

pneumonia). Ingestion may cause irritation to the digestivetract or diarrhea.

11.3 Potential chronic health effects : There is no evidence that exposure to 3-Butanone alonecauses progressive or irreversible neurotoxic effects. However, simultaneous over-exposure to 3-Butanone andn-Hexane can potentiate the known irreversible neurotoxiceffects of n-Hexane. There is no reported human evidencethat these neurotoxic effects occur when exposure to bothchemicals is maintained below established regulatory limits.

11.4 Other information : The mixture is not likely to be carcinogen in humans.
