Amendments 11-27 11th Amendment (1795)- No citizen can

sue a state in federal court without its consent

12th Amendment (1804)- Electors in Electoral College will vote separately for President and Vice President

13th Amendment (1865)- Abolished slavery

14th Amendment (1868)- No state can deny a US citizen equal protection of the law, gave blacks the rights of US and state citizenship

15th Amendment (1870)- Gave black (men) the right to vote

Amendments 11-27 16th Amendment (1913)- Gave Congress

the right to collect income tax 17th Amendment (1913)- Gave people in a

state the power to directly elect US Senators- taken from state legislatures

18th Amendment (1919)- Prohibited the making, sale, possession, and transportation of alcohol

19th Amendment (1920)- Gave women the right to vote

20th Amendment (1933)- Shortened the “lame duck” period for President, Vice President, and Congress

Amendments 11-27 21st Amendment (1933)- Repealed the 18th

Amendment 22nd Amendment (1951)- Limits the President to

2-four year terms, limits the Vice President to 10 years total if filling vacancy

23rd Amendment (1961)- Gave residents of Washington D.C. the right to vote in national elections, gave Washington D.C. 3 electoral votes in President elections

24th Amendment (1964)- Ended use of poll tax as voting requirement

25th Amendment (1967)- If a president dies or resigns, the Vice President becomes President, allows the Vice President to become acting president if the president is unable to fulfill his duties, if the Vice President office is empty, the President chooses a new Vice President
