Principal’s Corner Congratulations to all of our students on another fabulous term. Both teachers and students are looking forward to a break before starting the hard work again in term two. The grade Prep students have had a wonderful start to the year. It is amazing to walk through their classrooms and see them learning so much. It appears as if they have been at school for years. The leadership of the grade 5/6 students has been outstanding. This is one of the best groups of grade 5/6 students ever. Congratulations to our swimmers who competed last week. Congratulations to Cooper Feltham, Heath Corry, Sofia Christou and Lauren Beckwith who will now go on to the next regional competitions. Altona PS Has Got Talent was inundated by students for the auditions. There were over 150 students. What an awesome reflection on the music program this is. Mrs. Alexis Beckwith is our new school council president. Peter Roberts is the new vice president. The school council is such a vital group to lead our school community. The best outcome for every student is the fundamental consideration for all decision making. The most important role for the school council and our community this year is to review the past 4 years and set the direction for the next 4. Please start thinking about any ideas you might have to improve the school over the next 4 years. The 2017 – 2020 Strategic Plan will be a whole of community collaboration. I attended the Victorian State Schools Sports Association awards in the members’ room at the MCG this week. Past student Lucinda Rourke received the Victorian State Cross Country Blues Award. This award is for the best primary school cross country runner in the state. The awards were presented by past, current and possibly future Olympic athletes. Well done Lucinda, this is an amazing achievement. All the very best to Mr. Corroon for his wedding this week end and Mr. Rouse at the end of the term. We are interviewing for a replacement teacher for Mrs. Barwise next week. Monday will be a fun day. To raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation, we will be participating in the World's Greatest Shave with a Wacky Hair Day for all students and staff. Mr. McPherson is having his head shaved at assembly as part of this great cause. These celebrations help to build our culture and sense of community. Well done to the SRC for organising this day. Well done also to Antonio Bigolin who shaved his head last week to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. This will be the last newsletter for the term. Have a fantastic Easter and term one holiday period with your family. Kevin Enright

Cultural Diversity Week in Hobsons Bay
Cultural Diversity Week is celebrated in Victoria every year in March. This year, it is being celebrated from 12 to 20 March.
Did you know - almost half of all Victorians were either born overseas or have at least one parent who was born overseas? In the state of Victoria, we speak more than 260 languages and dialects and follow around 135 faiths and religions? In Hobsons Bay itself, there are more than 130 countries of origin. Hobsons Bay City Council have organised a whole calender of events to “promote harmony, inclusion and belonging for all”. The program runs from 12 to 20 March 2016 and has something to offer for everyone from cultural games, a multicultural market, food tasting, performances, arts and craft, activities for children and a film screening. The activities are free and many are kid-friendly. If you would like to find out more about Cultural Diversity Week and the activities that you could do with your children, follow this link to the Hobsons Bay website to download the brochure and go and explore the variety of Hobsons Bay’s cultural richness.
