WelcomeThe Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) would like to welcome you to the Alternatives Public Workshop for the Brooks Bridge Replacement Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. The purpose of tonight’s meeting is to provide you with an opportunity to learn more about the alternatives currently under consideration, ask questions, and express your comments and concerns. Information about the conceptual design and potential impacts of the various alternatives are on display. Project Team representatives will be available to answer questions and listen to your ideas. We look forward to your input.
About the Project After more than 50 years in operation, the Brooks Bridge is approaching the end of its useful life. The existing bridge does not meet current design standards, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, or navigational clearance requirements for this portion of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The bridge is currently structurally deficient, which does not pose an immediate threat to the traveling public, but does require FDOT to plan for a replacement bridge. To address the need for replacement, FDOT is conducting the Brooks Bridge Replacement PD&E Study. The intent is to identify replacement alternatives and evaluate the potential environmental, engineering and social impacts. The study will also assess potential improvements at the bridge approaches including the U.S. 98/ Santa Rosa Boulevard intersection on Okaloosa Island and the U.S. 98/Perry Avenue intersection in Fort Walton Beach. The results of the study will provide FDOT the information necessary to make a decision on the conceptual design of the replacement bridge.
We Need Your Input At this Alternatives Public Workshop, we are seeking input on various options to replace the Brooks Bridge at the current location: Typical Section of the bridge (number and configuration of vehicle lanes and bicycle / pedestrian lanes) Whether the replacement bridge should be shifted to the left (north) or right (south) of the current
locationIntersection options at Perry Avenue in Fort Walton Beach, and in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Boulevard on
Okaloosa Island
