HYDRAULICS I. 3-POINT HITCH PROBLEMS

FIGURE 7 - 3-Point Hitch Valve

A. 3-POINT HITCH WILL NOT LIFT A LOAD (Remote Valve Works Okay)

1. LOW OIL SUPPLY.

Hitch will begin to hesitate at top end of lift. Steering may be affected. Check oil level at sight glass on rear housing.

2. 3-POINT VALVE PILOT CHECKS STUCK CLOSED (Figure 7).

Operate remote valve (not hooked to ram) simultaneously with 3-Point Hitch valve. If 3-Point Hitch then raises load, problem is pilot check stuck closed in 3-Point Hitch valve. Remove and free up pilot checks.

3. SPOOL NOT BEING MOVED IN 3-POINT HITCH VALVE (Figure 7)

Make sure spool is being moved rearward into raise position in valve body by observing movement of spool as lever is moved. If spool is not being moved check for broken cable or misadjusted linkage.

4. LOAD TOO H EA VY.

Attach pressure gauge to test port on P.T.O. valve. If gauge reaches 2300 - 2500 PSI at idle speed, but load is not being lifted, load is too great.

5. LEAK IN 3-POINT HITCH VALVE (Figure 7)

Remove and plug outlet line from 3-Point Hitch valve to lift ram. Attach flow tester to a pair of remote valve outlets.

CAUTION: Make sure flow control for remote valve is in full open position and return hose from tester is connected to remote valve outlet, or test will be misleading.

Check flow through remote valve at 1500 PSI with 3-Point Hitch valve in lower position, and tractor running at idle speed.

Move 3-Point Hitch valve to raise position. There should be no decrease in flow through tester. If there is, 3-Point Hitch valve has an internal leak. See test section for more details on performing this test and test 6 below.

6. LEAK IN 3-POINT HITCH RAM

If no leak can be detected in valve above, reconnect lift ram line and retest as above. Putting valve in raise should not decrease flow through tester except while lift arms are moving up.

7. RAM DISCONNECTED FROM LIFT SHAFT ARM

Lift arms often will not come all the way down. May be a grinding sound in lift arm housing. Remove lift arm housing to check,

HYDRAULICS TRACTOR DOES NOT MOVE WHEN CLUTCH IS ENGAGED -

ENGINE PULLS DOWN (Cont'd)

5. BRAKES PRESSURIZED OR HAVE PLATES WARPED

Engine does not pull down unless tractor is moving. Plug pressure line to P.T.O. valve to eliminate brake pressure and try again. If it still pulls down, remove final drives to check for warped brake plates, or other damage in final drive area.

C. TRACTOR WILL NOT STOP WHEN CLUTCH IS DISENGAGED

FIGURE 24 • Torque Limiter and Power Director Clutch

When tractor is operating in H I range at high engine RPM there will be a one to two second delay between clutch pedal movement and clutch disengagement. This is normal for H I clutch. Longer hesitation in H I clutch or any hesitation in LO clutch is NOT normal.

1. PLUGGED DRAIN ORIFICE IN HI RANGE CLUTCH (Figure 24)

Clutch will disengage better at low engine RPM than at high RPM. Will also disengage better from LO range than from HI, especially after being operated for a period of time in LO. Check further by removing HI range drain orifice plug from clutch through scavenger pump opening. I nstall screened orifice plug No. 268962 and recheck.

2. MISSING SPRING FROM HI RANGE FLYBALL OR FL YBALL STUCK (Figure 24)

Clutch will disengage slowly from H I range. LO range disengagement will not be affected unless HI range orifice is also completely plugged. Shut off

3.

tractor, start, and check LO range disengagement before operating in HI range. If LO range is okay, but HI range disengagement is still slow, check HI range orifice and flyball through scavenger pump opening.

WARPED CLUTCH PLATES (Figure 24)

Problem more severe with cold transmission oil. Tractor may try to move forward even when being started. Engine speed will not affect speed of disengagement. Transmission brake will be ineffective and may cause transmission oil overheating when operating in opposite clutch range. Requires clutch removal for verification and repair.

4. CLUTCH PLATES HANG.ING ON SPLINES OR PISTON STUCK (Figure 24)

~ Acts like warped plates. More likely to happen to HI range than LO. Will eventljally cause warped plates.
