PATTERN PARTNERS Fabulously bold patterned drapery dress up these walls and serve as the inspiration for this room’s color scheme. Although the drapery and rug underfoot contain different patterns, they feature the same colors and therefore compliment each other. Choose furniture with solid fabrics within the color scheme to add stability and separate the patterns like this white couch and blue ottoman.
ALTERNATE ACCESSORIESUse a neutral background as the canvas for pops of bright color, clean lines, and funky patterns. In this room, a coat of chic gray paint, a cream couch, and charcoal gray drapery, give a foundation to the bright plants, pillows and chair. These touches keep the room from looking cold. When you feel like a change in the color scheme, simply swap out accessories for a whole new look.
Spring is here. It’s time to celebrate warmer weather, enjoy nature’s beauty, experience luminescent light, and breathe in fresh air. As you open your windows this spring season, open your mind too - to updating your home with a lighter and brighter look. You can count on us to help you refresh yourhome with a beautiful new look this spring.
STAND OUTBe bold and choose a primary color that makes a statement, such as this hot pink. The black and white accessories ensure that the color doesn’t overwhelm the eye.
CREATING A BALANCEWhen deciding on a color scheme, commit to two main hues dispersed evenly throughout the room. Here the bright blue and bright yellow are placed symmetrically to create a visually stunning space. The lines of the carpet and painted black doors drive the eye toward the center and make the blue and yellow pair even more dramatic.
SMALL TOUCHES If elegant, dark tones are more your style, toss in a few bright accessories for an unexpected burst of color. In this space, the yellow and blue pillows and blue art pop against the dark walls.
“WHITE” AS AN ACCENT Strong color such as black is the perfect backdrop for the clean lines of white. Splashes of turquoise on the chairs and drapery give this space a crisp finish.

If our walls aren’t happy, then we aren’t
happy. The best way to determine what our
walls are telling us is to listen to ourselves.
For example, with the summer approching,
we are already experiencing warmer weath-
er. Let’s think about any room, or multiple
rooms, in our home that always feel warmer
or downright hot in the summer. No matter
how new or maintained our air-condition-
ing unit is, we just cannot keep this room
cool with the rest of the house. This is a
good indication that the insulation behind
our walls is no longer doing its job. Howev-
er, rather than listen to our walls which are
feeling hot, sweaty with condensation, and
100% vulnerable to mold, we just close the
door, happy that we still have another four
or five rooms of living space. On the other
hand, many of us may know of the problem,
but just do not want to deal with the messy
and costly task of moving out of that room,
tearing down walls, lugging in rolls of pink
insulation, re-hanging sheetrock, texturing
the walls, painting, then replacing the floor
and crown molding. Whether we take on
this project ourselves or hire a professional,
we all know that even a one room project
like this can have the entire household in
an inconvenient turmoil until everything is
back to normal. But wait. If the insulation
in that one room needs replacing, then we
may as well start planning to have the rest
of the house re-insulated as well. Now we
just need a place to stay while the work
gets done. Oh, and I forgot to mention a
project like this can cost around $15 per
square foot!
We have all heard the expression, “If these walls could talk…” Well, what if they could? Would they tell us that the picture of Aunt Gertrude is crooked, or that there is a spaghetti sauce stain in the bottom right hand corner from last weekend’s food fight? Ok, so before I get carried away with all the embarrassing pos-sibilities of what secrets our walls keep, many people may be surprised to know that our walls really do talk. We just need to know how to listen.
Almost all of the newer homes today
are built with spray foam insulation. This
process is done by spraying on layers of
foam before the sheetrock is installed.
However, in the case of a home that is 10
years or older, much like replacing the
pink stuff, spray foam is not a cost
effective option. More than likely older
homes have the pink insulation, or if the
insulation has never been upgraded, they
may have rock wool which is loose fill
insulation. Many of the older homes may
not have any insulation at all. In any case,
the lack of good insulation leaves our home
vulnerable to drafts, insects, rodents, and
mold. All of these home invaders greatly
contribute to our health problems, such
as causing respiratory illness. But thanks
to those great scientists, we don’t need to
keep tearing down walls because they de-
veloped a more cost effective, environmen-
tally friendly solution to the problem.
In recent years, an insulation primarily
used in commercial buildings, has started
emerging in the residential insulation
market. The name of this product is called
Homesulate™ and was initially developed
in 1966. According to Terry Jones, partner
for the only locally licensed Homesulate™
professional installers FoamForMyHome,
the “Insulation was specifically designed
and formulated as highly efficient thermal
and acoustical cavity fill insulation. For
36 years, it has been specified and installed
in more than 390 million square feet
of new and existing commercial and
residential construction.” FoamForMyHome
is located in Woodway, Texas and Terry
offers free insulation inspections in
Waco and surrounding areas, Temple/
Killeen, and Bryan/College Station. Once
customers schedule an install date, the
installation process is fairly quick as most
home installs are completed in one day.
The cleanup is minimal because the insula-
tion is injected from the outside walls of a
home that is brick, wood, vinyl siding, and
many other applications.
They do this by drilling holes in the
mortar of a brick home or drilling holes
underneath the siding. The insulation is
injected and is already pre-expanded. The
insulation fills over existing insulation and
fills all corners and crevices of the wall.
Once complete, the installer fills holes back
in with matching color mortar, or fills holes
in behind siding. Voila! So go ahead, open
those doors and enjoy your quiet walls
because this insulation offers up to 50%
energy savings, up to 80% sound proofing,
and it is rated highest in fire resistance,
too. The best part about it is that it’s more
affordable than doing the big project with
the pink stuff, but less messy and less time
consuming. We all love getting returns
back on our investments, and aside from
lower energy bills and increasing the
resale value of one’s home, the most
valuable return of Homesulate™ insulation
comes from providing our families with
a more comfortable home and a
healthier environment.
