Vice Chair All Stars Project of Chicago Board

Fundraiser Supporting the All Stars Project of Chicago

One of the greatest challenges we face in Chicago is the fact that many of our young people are growing up in isolated and impoverished communities, shut out from the mainstream of society. Many of these youth simply do not experience the opportunities they need in order to break the cycle of poverty and become productive members of their communities.

Through my involvement with the All Stars Project of Chicago, including as Vice Chair of the Board, I have personally witnessed the positive change in dozens of Chicago teenagers through their participation in All Stars afterschool development programs. Seeing and experiencing this transformation has been tremendously rewarding for me and so many other business leaders and companies who not only financially support, but are actively involved with the young people in All Stars’ programs. Led by City Leader David Cherry, who is a significant grassroots organizer and leader in the Chicago community, All Stars Project is creating new solutions to engaging poverty across the city.

Hilco Global, the Turnaround Management Association and the All Stars Project have created a dynamic partnership in Chicago and across the country. We are excited to co-host A Night of Shining Stars, which will be cocktail-networking fundraiser to allow our local turnaround/restructuring community to engage and invest directly in the growth and development of Chicago’s youth. We are proud to be honoring Suzanne Koenig and Patrick Nash for their leadership in the industry and their commitment to engaging some of the most critical issues in the city. They truly deserve the honor of being the first Night of Shining Stars honorees.

Our goal is the help All Stars reach hundreds more young people and families. I hope you will consider becoming a sponsor, making a gift, or purchasing tickets to celebrate our honorees with us on December 4th and make this inaugural event a huge success for Chicago’s youth.

DAVID CHERRYCity LeaderAll Stars Project of Chicago

Fundraiser Supporting the All Stars Project of Chicago

As I look back over the past twelve years, I am awed by the tremendous growth All Stars Project of Chicago has experienced since we first opened the doors in 2007. Sponsors and volunteers from the Chicago community have brought us to the place we are today—moving our mission forward by leaps and bounds to transform the lives of youth and poor communities through the power of caring adults and the power of performance.

Thanks to the continued investment of the turnaround/restructuring community and champions like Suzanne Koenig and Patrick Nash, and our partners at Hilco Global and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), I am proud that we can offer robust Afterschool Development programs that provide a long-term response to poverty. These programs provide internships, workshops and enriching life experiences that profoundly improve the lives of our All Stars youth—transforming isolation and division into connection and community.

ASP has brought thousands of people together of all races, income levels, and political persuasions to create a more interconnected and inclusive Chicago with the importance of performance at its heart—whether on the stage or off. As we look to the future, we are excited to continue that inclusiveness based in our new Center for Afterschool Development in the heart of downtown.

I hope you will join us on to help recognize the contributions of our honorees and to celebrate how these partnerships are creating new performances and a new future for Chicago that shines bright for everyone.

A LETTER FROM DAVID CHERRY

About All Stars Project of ChicagoThe All Stars Project of Chicago reaches thousands of our city’s poorest young people every year through innovative Afterschool Development programs that help them grow by learning new performances—onstage and off. These programs are open to all young people who want to participate, regardless of GPA and no matter how well they are doing in school or in life.

In All Stars programs, like the All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN) and the Development School for Youth (DSY), young people try new things, become more worldly, and see new possibilities for themselves and their communities. Through the DSY, All Stars partners with some of the most successful executives and companies across Chicagoland who lead development workshops and provide paid summer internships for close to 80 young people each year from some of the poorest communities in Chicago, helping them learn to perform as professionals.

All Stars Project of Chicago has launched a campaign to establish our city’s first Center for Afterschool Development in the heart of downtown. The Center will be a hub for everyone who wants to bring performance and development to our city. It will connect youth from our south and west sides to each other, and to caring adults who are their partners in growth.

The All Stars Project, Inc. is 100% privately funded by individuals, corporations and foundations who are active partners in the growth and development of our young people.

MARGO COOKPresident, Nuveen Advisory ServicesChair, All Stars Project of Chicago Board

All Stars Project is filling a critical gap in the lives and experiences of inner-city youth. In All Stars’ programs, young people become aware of opportunities available to them, while at the same time, we gain a way to connect with and support their development. All Stars makes it possible for the business and inner-city communities to come together in a unique way that benefits the growth of our city and all of us individually.

GREG MUTZChairman & CEO, AMLI Residential

Many of us in the private sector have done extremely well on a financial basis. We hear a lot about income inequality and how the poor are having real problems generating traction to escape poverty. The All Stars Project is a critical lifeline for young people from poor and working class backgrounds to gain exposure to the broader business and economic world. The goal is to help these kids see real and tangible possibilities for themselves. In my view, it’s time for those who fortune has favored to step up. If we don’t reach out to these young people and give them an opportunity to connect to the mainstream, who will?

THE HONORABLE SONIA SOTOMAYORAssociate Justice, Supreme Court of the United States

There are a few causes that motivate me, that keep me excited about being a judge, and about being a human being. The [Development School for Youth] is one of those programs… As I am growing older, and as I hope to continue making contributions to developing my society, I realize that it’s meaningless unless the generation that follows me picks up the battle and continues it. And the battle is…to be better citizens, to be better family members, to be better friends, community members, and to give back to our society and make it better for everyone. This program, I believe, does that.
