ALLALUMINUM,PERFORMANCEENGINEEREDAIRFILTERS
The filtering media primarily consists of layers of aluminum slit and expanded into mesh of differing densities with hundreds of baffle-like
surfaces. The number of layers anddensities of the media employeddepend on the application. In every case, however, the baffles contribute to performance. While having little effect on filter cost, they add substantially to filtration effectiveness. The bafflesdirect air, bringing it into contact with the impurity-trapping surfaces of the mesh. Yet they offer slightresistance to the flow of air. This, coupled with the multiple layers and selected densities, increasesboth the holding capacity and efficiency of the media.CI aluminum filters have proven tobe economical and effective inkitchen ventilating equipment andsystems. In fact, with sufficient layers of the media, they can remove extremely high percentagesof grease and foreign matter fromexhaust or recirculating air. When impurities less tacky thangrease are to be trapped, the filters are coated with a speciallycompounded adhesive to increaseefficiency. The coating permits thebaffle surfaces of the mesh toremove and hold more dirt and dust, more lint and pollen.
Besides the engineered differences which make the media more effective, CI aluminum filters come in a variety of shapes and sizes.Circular and rectangular, domed and flatshapes are routinely furnished. Other morecomplex shapes are custom fabricated.Sizes as narrow as a couple of inches and in virtually any length for which there’s a practical use are readily available from Columbus Industries. This wide assortment of types, shapes and sizes allows selection of the filter with the cost and performance character-istics best suited for a given air cleaningapplication. Plus, it facilitates filter incorporation into air conditioning and cleaning, heating and cooling and ventilating equipment.

Cost effective by design
A choice of shapes and sizes to meet requirements
The all-aluminum construction of the filters has additional advantages. The metal is light in weight and resists corrosion. Therefore, CI washable aluminum filters are easy to handle. This combination speeds maintenance and makes it less costly. A mild detergent and warm waterwash are normally sufficient to clean the filters, restore them to service and extendtheir life almost indefinitely. The filters also capitalize on the inherentstrength of aluminum. The layers of CI filtering media, whether inserted separately in a frame or bonded, are rigid. Unless an exceptionally large area isinvolved, the layers need no additional support to hold their shape. The frames — bent, crimped and locked around the mesh — give the filters extra strength and longer life.Appearance and attenuation characteristics are other inherent advantages of the metal. Aluminum filters, expertly made by ColumbusIndustries, are functionally attractive. Furthermore, when inserted in ventilating “windows” of housings for electronics sensitive to radio frequency interference, the filters provide both cleaning of air and shielding from RFI.

Pre-Engineered Frames
Availability of Pre-Engineered Media
Features• Single-piece construction for strength• Unique corner design for rigidity• Tight crimp grip to hold media securely• Interlocking frame curvature at corners
to ensure form fit• Sturdy lock joint for integrity
Framed units with up to 18 layers of filtering media are available from Columbus Industries.
FITS® is short for Fit It To Size — bonded layers of filtering media which are available in rolls or sheets, allowing the user to produce made-to-order sizes of filters.
Pre-engineered types of media and sizes of frames are available fromColumbus Industries. This standardization allows prefabrication of filtering componentsand, as a result, quicker assemblyand faster delivery of finished productproven effective from many greaseand dust collecting applications.
Pre-engineeredto speed delivery
Numerous efficiency, holding capacity and airflow resistance tests have been conducted on CI aluminum and other filters. Results are available upon request.
