All Saints August 2016
More Seeds of Hope! Pastor Russ Sorensen
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12
These are times as people of All Saints to “Rejoice in hope!” We continue to plant “Seeds of Hope” at All Saints this summer and God is beginning to show the increase, nurtured with God’s love and care. There is joy in the anticipation and hope for the future. God’s work continues through our hands. It is still true…Every time we pray for each other and the ministry we share…Every time we listen with care and patience to one another…Every time we share the good news of God’s love for those that we meet each day…we rejoice in hope! More “Seeds of Hope” at All Saints...
Three Confirmation students and three other students from All Saints had fantastic experiences of
growth in faith and life at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp this summer thanks to the support from people of All Saints. They expressed thanks for this opportunity to have fun and grow in their faith and relationship with others. Other children, youth, and family needs are being explored, as well.
Vacation Bible School at All Saints this year grew from 25 students last year to 65 this year! Great
excitement and learning, reaching new families, great leadership from Marleta and her caring team of volunteers, Rainbow Trail counselor energy and life! Incredible!
New energy applied into the development of the All Saints Prayer Team. Prayers offered up for the work
of the Transition Team and All Saint’s leadership and council as we take each new step to prepare for the welcome of a new pastor for ministry.
Conversations and steps are being taken to more clearly identify the care needs of the people of All
Saints. At the same time we are evaluating what resources are available for response to those needs.
Conversations and steps are being taken to more clearly identify the worship needs of the people of All
Saints. We are blessed with wonderful gifts of praise and thanks to God!
All Saints Home Gatherings, hosted by the church council continue to be great opportunities to share
great hopes, dreams and questions for clarification with the leaders of All Saints.
The Transition Team is making excellent progress in working on the Ministry Site Profile of All Saints. This
will help us be well prepared for the Call Committee phase of the transition to the future. In the midst of this growth toward the future I am reminded of the “Byzantine Benediction” shared with me by my friend and former Bishop Duane Pederson. I mentioned it in one of my sermons a couple of weeks ago.

August 2016
Newsletter “Byzantine Benediction” It is a prayer for all of us… Go now with God. Be not tempted to stay in the safety of known places. Move from where you are to where God points. Go now with God. Be not tempted to go only in your time, when it suits, when it is sure. For now is God’s time. Go now with God. Choose not to go alone. Go in faith that there is no wilderness so vast, No way so confused,
That God is not already there to show you the way.
~ Amen

All Saints Lutheran Church and Preschool
Albuquerque, New Mexico ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod
MISSION STATEMENT (draft)
As God’s forgiven people: · We welcome all in Christ’s love. · We grow together in faith and life. · We go out to love and serve others
VISION STATEMENT (draft)
We Welcome: Our unity as All Saints Lutheran Church & Preschool is in Christ and we welcome all who are seeking God’s love and grace. All Saints Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ congrega-tion. All are welcome regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expres-sion, relationship status, socioeconomic circumstances, abilities, or anything that too often divides us. We strive to be a compassionate church that watches out and cares for all people. We Grow: We are a congregation and preschool called to grow disciples of Christ. We encourage life-long learning and use opportunities to strengthen our relationship with God and each other. Caring conversations, fellowship, prayer, study, devotions, and service projects are a part of our faith formation for children, youth, and adults. These activities often work best if devel-oped in the family home or in small groups. Worship, with inspirational music and Gospel cen-tered messages, is important for our growth and development. God’s love is always poured out as we gather around Word, water, wine, and bread. We Go: We go out with joyful and meaningful involvement in service and support to our community and world. All members discover and use their God given gifts to support God’s mission for All Saints Lutheran Church & Preschool. We are challenged to embody the open arms of Christ on the cross as we are involved in “God’s work-Our Hands.” As we go into the troubled and broken places in our community and world, we advocate, witness, and share the love of God that is in our hearts. God promises “that he will always be there with us!”

Transition Team Update for August The Transition Team is continuing to make headway. We are well on our way to com-pleting our work and passing the results of our efforts to All Saints’ Church Council, the Rocky Mountain Synod and, eventually, a Call Committee. We continue to target completing our work by the end of summer. Please take a look at the Transition Team Tracker included with this edition of the newsletter. The tracker represents our progress and the status of tasks and the current transition phases. We hope you are pleased with our progress. Also, we want to remind you to share your thoughts regarding the newly-created Mis-sion and Vision Statements with any member of our team or the Church Council. These state-ments will remain in draft until the congregation and Council finishes discussing and affirms them. At that time, they can be included in the Ministry Site Profile to be submitted to the Rocky Mountain Synod, as well as becoming the guide for All Saints day-to-day activities and achieving a bright future. The Together at Home Gatherings would be a perfect venue for you to discuss the Mission and Vision Statements with others. Finally, please remember the Prayer Group continues looking for members. If you would like to participate, please contact Pastor Russ, Jan Jastram, or Barbara Willman. We continue to appreciate your prayers and support. They inspire us. Peace, Your Transition Team

Update from Community Outreach Committee: We would like to update everyone on the status of our Young Adult in Global Mission Volunteers (YAGM). Charlotte Flynn has been serving since last June in Hungary working with the Romani Community. She is completing her year of service and returning to the states in August. We wish her well on her return to the states and hope to be able to sponsor her at All Saints some time in the future to talk about her year abroad with YAGM. Our new volunteer until next summer is Timothy Slivensky who will be serving in Jerusalem/West Bank. Timothy sent us an email that I would like to share with all of you in the congregation. We look forward to traveling vicariously with Timothy in the coming year and learning more about the YAGM work in the Holy Land. Watch for up updated information throughout the year on the Missionary bulletin board in the Narthex. Please keep Charlotte and Timothy in your prayers as they transition into their new roles. Hello All Saints Lutheran Church, Thank you for being willing to sponsor me and for your more general support of the YAGM program. YAGM does a lot of great work and you and your congregation's funding helps that mission. However, it is more heartening to me to know that the thoughts and prayers of the whole church, even those we have not met, go with me and all the YAGMS. A little about me: I'm from Longview in north-east Texas. I went to a small school there and I worshiped at First Lutheran Church in Longview. After High-school, I studied Management Information Systems at The University of Texas at Austin, and I graduated this past May. While at UT, I served as treasurer and president of the Lutheran Campus Ministry. My year of service. I was called this past spring to serve with the YAGM specifically in Bethlehem at a school called Dar Al-Kalima. There I will be working with High School aged students, teaching English. I will also be working at the Environmental Education Center, helping them with their grant program in the Holy Land in communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan & the Holy Land (ELCJHL). I will be serving writing. I will be worshiping at The Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Beit Jala. I hope this brief introduction helps, and I look forward to connecting with you and your congregation more. Best, Timothy Slivensky [email protected]

Invitation to Community Service Opportunity I invite All Saints members 50+ to join me in literacy
tutoring at Sierra Vista Elementary School starting
next fall. This is a commitment to meet with the same
child throughout the school year to read, talk, and
write stories for an average of one hour weekly. No
experience is necessary – training and background
check clearance will be provided by OASIS
Albuquerque. OASIS is a national organization that
promotes healthy aging through lifelong learning and
social engagement, including service to others. For
more information call me, Sharon Ellis, at 505-892-

students at Sierra Vista with food for backpacks and
Christmas gifts for needy families. By bringing the joy
of reading to a young mind, you will also be a role
model, a mentor, and a friend to a student K-4!
