CPR Professional development

Table Talk Books We have had very positive feedback on our Table Talk books. In fact we have more Table Talk books returned than the Home Learning sheets. Your home conversations have greatly helped conversations at school. It has been fantastic! To keep that going this term we are aiming for a 100% return rate. So, for weeks 1 to 5, your child will only bring home their Table Talk book and readers / books for home learning. These two activities are having the most positive impact on our students learning. If you feel your child needs a home learning sheet as well, you can download a copy from our website or request one through the classroom teacher – just call the office or pop a note in your child’s lunchbox.

Class Newsletters Our class newsletters will be coming home this week. You will notice that we have included a QR code that looks something like this:

This is a trial as a way to share extra information. Once scanned the QR code may show a video or a photo. Anyone with a smart phone can access the code. If you don’t already have one, you can download a QR scanner from your application store (google play for Androids or App Store for Apple products). There are a number to choose from and each one varies with the number of advertisements shown. All of them are free to download. When you launch your app of choice, you'll need to allow it to have access to your camera. Line up the camera on your device with the QR code you want to scan, and hold the device steady until the app can read the code in front of it.

Bronze - these are usually given out at Monday’s assembly.

K-2

Years 3/4

Years 5/6

What are we learning about this term? This term we are having an ‘environmental’ term. Most of the books that we read, video clips that we watch and conversations that we have will be around solving the following questions: Turtle Connections Incursion To help Stage 3 solve their question, students will participate in an incursion which visits the Great Barrier Reef, looking at the survival of turtles on the reef and how to care for the fragile environment. Incursions will happen this week in the library.

Online NAPLAN Testing Nest week students in Year 3 and 5 will begin completing the NAPLAN Online Tests. Doing it online is new for our school as in the past we have only used a pen and paper. All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in schools across Australia undertake the same tests on the same days. Students have their skills assessed in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Numeracy. The results provide more information on how students are progressing and support improvements in teaching and learning. All children, including those who have only just arrived at school in the past weeks will sit for these tests. (Our Recess will be delayed by 10 minutes for the whole school on Tuesday). Visit the demonstration site with your child to get a sneak preview of how the Online Test operates. https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site

The follow are sample questions that Year 3 students are asked to solve.

Sporting Updates Zone Athletics Carnival Our Zone Athletics Carnival is on this Friday at Alexandra Park. Events start at 9:30am and children are expected to report to Mr Lindner and Miss Wood at 9:15 am at Alexandra Park. Children are to wear our sport uniform. School sport tops will be given out at Alexandra Park and returned on the day. Winter PSSA Notes for PSSA will be going home this week. Over the next 3 terms, students in Years 3 – 6 will be able to play sports against other schools in the Albury area on a Friday. In Term 2 and Term 3, children selected to play Netball and Soccer. Children not involved in PSSA sport will be offered other sports to participate in. We are attempting to finalise lawn bowls, table tennis and basketball as options.

Election Day BBQ – Saturday 18th May This week the P&C will decide if we are going to be able to provide an Election Day BBQ . It is extremely difficult at times to be able to provide enough people to work throughout the day. You do not need to be a member of the P&C to offer your time – even 30 minutes can help us. Please contact the office if you are able to work at the BBQ, on Election Day anytime between 8.00am and 2pm.

New netball and handball courts Today we received notification that we will be getting synthetic turf under our COLA area to outline a netball and some handball courts. Construction will begin next Monday and run for approx. 2 weeks.

P&C Mother’s Day and Special Carers Day Stall

This stall will be held on Thursday 9th May. Prices for gifts will range from $1 to $10. Students will be taken to the stall by their teacher in the morning. We are in desperate need of some helpers for this stall. Please contact our office if you are able to help out.
