THE ADOBE THEATER EST. 1957Started in Corrales and with many homes since including school auditoriums, an old coffin factory, even the historic San Ysidro Church, the theater expanded in 1988 from just a summer season to a year-round operation in a small, crowded, 50-seat venue with a ceiling support beam in the middle of the first row! Steady growth, increased popularity and the support of friends and patrons brought us, in 1995, to our current facility at 9813 Fourth Street NW; 90 seats in an intimate “thrust” performance space with unobstructed views and plenty of room.

Today, The ADOBE Theater continues “To present the finest theatrical performances to our community; to provide an educational vehicle to produce plays, musicals and other entertainments – and furnish an opportunity for learning experiences for theater enthusiasts of all ages with any degree of experience.”

The Adobe has always been a volunteer organization. Whether on-stage, back stage or in our audience, come join the fun! You can start at adobetheater.org!

OPERA SOUTHWEST EST. 1972 Opera Southwest, Albuquerque’s opera company, has built a reputation as an under-the-radar destination for exceptional performances of both standard and rarely performed operas.

Our very first four-opera season will open on October 28th with Puccini’s heart wrenching TOSCA, the deadliest opera in the repertoire.

In February 2019, Opera Southwest and the National Hispanic Cultural Center will continue their partnership to produce MARIA DE BUENOS AIRES – Piazzolla’s only foray into opera, which explores sounds of late-night tango culture and culminates in a thrilling dance through the underbelly of Buenos Aires.

We’ll round out the season with two epic shows – our first apprentice artist opera and the state premiere of Rossini’s very first opera, LA CAMBIALE DI MATRIMONIO, and another state premiere, Wagner’s epic LOHENGRIN.

LANDMARK MUSICALS EST. 2008Landmark Musicals, now in its eleventh season, continues to delight audiences with first-class productions of the very best of the American musical theater.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL: The Amazing Holiday Spectacular November 24-December 9, 2018

“Music, dance, colorful costumes and atmospheric scenery,” opined The New York Times, all intended to make holiday theatergoing a pleasant family experience -- are marshaled here to satisfying effect. The music is by Alan Menken (who also wrote the songs for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Little Shop of Horrors) and the lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (who also wrote Once on This Island, Seussical and Ragtime). The unforgettable characters of Charles Dickens fill the Rodey stage in an equally unforgettable production. The director is Laurie Finnegan. Landmark’s music director is Darby Fegan, production designer is Dahl Delu, choreographers are Louis and Courtney Giannini.

PIPPIN: Back by Popular Demand March 16-March 31, 2019

Once upon a time, the young prince Pippin longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family. This hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale captivated Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere. The energetic pop-influenced score by Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell) bursts with one showstopping number after another, from soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers. Directed by Zane Barker, choreographed by Louis and Courtney Giannini.

THE MANSION PLAYERS EST. 2010

The Mansion Players community theater group in Valencia County will present several dinner theater shows in the upcoming Fall/Winter season.

October will see the updated fifth edition of our musical current events show — ROUNDHOUSE ROCK. This dinner theater has always sold out, and we anticipate lots of laughs in this year’s show, which will satirize statewide elections, along with local issues and personalities.

In November, we will present our always-popular historical drama dinner theater, AN EVENING WITH THE LUNA-OTERO FAMILY, at the Luna Mansion as a fund-raising event for the Business Women of Valencia County organization.

Then in February, 2019, we will perform a brand new interactive murder mystery dinner theater, which we hope will be as popular as our sold-out performance last year at Teofilo’s Restaurante.

SCHOOLS

OPERA UNLIMITED EST. 1990

In 1990 a group of professional educators, musicians and theatrical performers founded Opera Unlimited due to the mutual concern that more and more children were lacking an acquaintance with opera. Using a unique approach, Opera Unlimited is a non-profit educational performance company dedicated to the children of New Mexico.

Opera Unlimited seeks to promote appreciation and understanding of music, especially opera, by introducing it to school-aged children throughout New Mexico. Annually, we operate a day camp during the summer which educates children, ages 5 to 18, in the many aspects of theater by producing an abridged Gilbert and Sullivan light opera that is presented at the end of camp. Favorite performances include THE MIKADO, RUDDIGORE, PATIENCE and THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.

We also present professional opera performances to elementary schools, libraries and community groups across the state. Enjoyable for children and adults, our outreach team exposes audiences to classical music through well-known stories such as JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF and AESOP’S FABLES.
