The Jamiatul Ulama(KZN) received a request from Imaam Ismail Musaally for assistance in supplying Sierra Leone, with Quran Sharifs due to the great scarcity of Qurans in that country. Imaam Ismail who hails from Sierra Leone, currently serves as an Imaam at Musjid Abdullah in Georgia, Atlanta, USA and often visits his native country for spiritual upliftment of his people.

Alhamdulillah, the Jamiatul Ulama (KZN) undertook to assist in this project and by the grace of Allah and with the support of the Muslim community of South Africa, the first stage of assessment and distribution was conducted in April 2012. 10 000 Qurans were shipped from India to Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa.

Question:

Answer:

Can I ask someone to do Istikharah on my behalf or should I do Istikharah on my own?

The Sunnah method is to do Istikharah on your own. There is no basis in the Sunnah for requesting someone else (eg; a pious person) to do Istikharah on one's behalf. Istikhara is a personal matter that is largely dependent on one's personal inclination.

I am a female beautician and one of the services I provide is hair removal. Some clients request bikini waxing (waxing the pubic area). Is this permissible?

To remove the hair of another person from areas that are Aurah (prohibited to view) is not permissible. Thus, removing hair from these areas including the hair on the thighs of the client or performing bikini waxing or Brazilian waxing on clients are all prohibited. Females should remove hair around such areas on their own. It is the height of immodesty to have hair around such areas to be removed by someone else.

Muslim females should also take note that it is not permissible for them to expose their bodies to non-Muslim females besides their hands, feet and face.

(al-Mausu'atul Fiqhiyyah al-Kuwaitiyyah, Vol: 31, Pg: 47)

I received this message on my blackberry from a contact: “Don't send Qur’an aayats or kalimas on messages. As they get deleted and its a sign of qiyamat that a Muslim will erase quran aayats or kalimas by his own hands. “Is this true?

Sayyiduna Huzayfah y reports that Rasulullah r said: “(Close to Qiyamah), Islam will fade as the designs on clothing fade away (with time), to the extent that people will not even know what is fasting, what is Salaah, what is Hajj and what is Sadaqah. The Qur'an will disappear overnight and not a verse will remain on the earth” (Ibn Majah, Hadith #: 4049)

As indicated in the Hadith, this refers to the words being obliterated from the Mus'haf (Qur'an) itself. According to another narration in Ibn Majah, the knowledge of the Qur'an will be removed from the hearts of people. It does not refer to messages or broadcasts containing Quranic verses or instructions.

Thus, there is no sin in circulating messages that contain advice from the Qur'an and the authentic Ahadith. Muslims are encouraged to make constructive use of technology by circulating authentic messages from the Qur'an, Hadith and reliable Ulama.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

tSayyiduna Muaawiyah tSayyiduna Muaawiyah Amongst the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jama`ah, there is consensus

regarding the excellence and distinction of Sayyiduna

Muawiyah t. Unfortunately, he is from among those

personalities of Islam whose service to the Deen of Allah has

not only been ignored by some, but also a concerted effort has

been made to actually conceal his sterling efforts . Many

baseless and false accusations have been levelled against him

based on ignorance and false premises. However, when one

analyses the Qur’an-e-Kareem and the Ahadeeth of

Rasulullah , one will be astonished to find the great virtues

mentioned regarding this eminent Sahabi .

Rasulullah made the following duas for him :

“Oh Allah! Make Muawiyah a guide for others, one who

himself is rightly guided, and one who is also a means of

guidance for others.” (Tirmizi Vol 2 Pg 247)

“Oh Allah! Grant Muawiyah the knowledge of mathematics

and save him from the fire of Jahannam.” (Majma uz-Zawaaid

Vol 9 Pg 386)

“Oh Allah! Teach him the Qur’an, grant him a stronghold over

the lands, and save him from the torment of Jahannam.”

Once Abdullah Ibn Mubarak (R.A.) was questioned about

Sayyiduna Muawiyah and Sayyiduna Umar bin Abdul-Aziz

(R.A.), as to which of the two held more virtue. Upon hearing

this question Abdullah Ibn Mubarak (R.A.) became very angry

and remarked, “You enquire about a comparison between

those two? (i.e. a Sahaabi and a non Sahaabi). I swear by Allah

that the dust that entered the nostrils of the horse of

Muawiyah whilst fighting in Jihad at the side of Nabi is

better than Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz.” (Ibid Pg 139)

Sayyiduna Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz (R.A.) did not lash anyone

during the entire reign of his Khilafat except for one person

who spoke of Sayyiduna Muawiyah in a derogatory manner.

(Al-Istiaab Tahtal Isaabah Vol 3 Pg 383)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood said: Allah looked at the hearts

made him His Messenger and granted him special knowledge

from His own. Thereafter Allah looked at the hearts of His

his responsibility. (Hilyatul Awliyaa)
