Capone dropped out of school atthe age of 12.
As a teenager, he was a member of a gang that was controlled by the
mobster, Johnny Torrio.He followed Torrio to Chicago in
1919.
He quickly rose to prominence within the crime scene.

Torrio was wounded, and no longer
able to lead the gang.
Capone took over and, soon after,
the gang had control over Chicago’s
bootlegging and gambling.

Capone’s most
infamous crime was
when he ordered the St.
Valentine’s Day
Massacre, on Feb. 14,1929, where members
of a rival gang were
murdered by Capone’sgang, who pretended to

Al Capone was
famously “caught”
in 1931.
He was successfully
convicted for
income-tax evasion.
He was sentenced toserve 11 years in
prison.

After serving seven and a half
years, Capone was released to a
hospital as a result of his poor
health.
In his final years, he lived as a
virtual recluse in Florida with his
family.He died on January 25, 1947.
