In a picturesque valley encircled by the Aravalli, 131Kms west of Jaipur, the city
of Ajmer invites all with its beautiful & magnificent blend of indo Islamic architecture, its refreshing lakes and its Dargahs (shrines). The city is well connected to most major towns of the country with its railways and roadways.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY:
If arriving by train one can immediately sight the white tombs of Abdullah Khan and his wife. The city as such is dotted with beautiful architecture but there are a few that need to be visited to feel its grandeur.
A good place to welcome the morning is at the Baradari by the Anasagar Lake.
Then moving on situated within the city is the shrine of revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The shrine also known as Khawaja Garib Nawaz is one of the holiest Muslim religious sites in India and has to be visited to be amazed.
A few minutes away is the Soniji Ki Nasiyan, a Jain temple with beautiful gold plated wooden architecture.
A bit further the Jama Al Tamish or Adhai din ka Jhopada is a beautiful structure built by Abu Bakr under Mohammed Ghori that is rich in intricate workmanship and architecture.
After finishing lunch, one can drive up the Nagpahari hill, stopping over at Prithviraj Chauhan smarak and finally reaching the Taragarh fort.
At a height of 2855ft above MSL the Taragarh fort commands a magnificent view of the whole town. One can also visit the Dargah of Miran Syed Husain there.
The best place to catch the sunset after this would be Lake Foy Sagar, or the Nareli Jain temple, both of which are at some distance from the Taragarh fort.
Reaching Pushkar the same night or very early the next morning, the Savitri mata temple atop Ratnagiri temple is a mesmerizing place to watch the sunrise and get charged for the day ahead.
After coming down the hill and having breakfast one can visit the many
amazing temples that surround the lake, the most prominent of them being the Bhrama temple, the Varaha temple, the Aptaeshwar temple and the Dravidian Rangji temple.
Lunch can be availed after this temple tour.
Post lunch one can spend time till evening going through all the sounds and hues of the bazaars that encircle the lake.
In the evening a relaxing, tranquil and intoxicating sunset can be experienced either at the Kishangarh ghat which is slightly aloof from other ghats or the Jaipur ghat where one can dip their feet in the small water enclosure and enjoy acupressure from tiny fishes while watching the sun bathe the town in its final golden glow right in front of you.
