Supplied Air RespiratorsIndependent of the Ambient Atmosphere

MSA offers various Supplied Air Respirators (SAR) that function inde-pendently of the ambient air.

The self contained breathing apparatus system, including the AirGo andAirMaXX models, is independent of the ambient atmosphere, meaningthe user is not tied to a specific location. They offer a wide variety of fea-tures and applications.

MSA offers the monitoring systems alpha Personal Network with tele-metric capabilities and the personal alert safety system motionSCOUT.

MSA’s chemical oxygen apparatus are ideal for escape/ or working ap-plications wherever outbreaks of toxic gases, particles or the suddenoccurrence of oxygen deficiency are to be expected.

The Airline system is designed for applications of extended duration;e.g. in confined spaces. This system connects to an external air supply, offering cost effective protection. If you have to be prepared for situa-tions where sudden oxygen deficiency can occur, an MSA compressedair escape device is an option well worth considering.

Ambient-Air-Dependant Protection

Filtered respiratory protection is dependent on the ambient atmos-phere. Local regulations concerning the use of filtering devices must beobserved.

In order to use filtering respirators, the type, properties and compositionof the hazardous agent in the ambient air must be known. The oxygencontent in the inhalation air must be sufficient (for example according toGerman regulations: at least 17 vol %).

When using particle filters, no hazardous gases may be present; whenusing gas filters, no hazardous particles. In case of doubt, a combined filter must be used.

The most frequently used filters are of the ABEK type, which protectagainst many hazards at the same time, due to the wide range of pro-tection that they provide. Based on EN 14387, these filters have an application range covering the code letters A, B, E and K. Benefits forthe user include: safe selection, no mix-ups, economical procurement, simpler stockkeeping.

High-grade multiple range filters have an even greater sphere of appli-cation, e. g. the combined filter 93 ABEK CO NO Hg/St or 93 A2B2E2K2Hg/St.

Advantage® 200 LS Half Mask RespiratorThe Advantage 200 LS Respirator's Lighter and Softer facepiece is made from a clearblue formulation of thermoplastic rubber to give workers more comfort and stabilitythan ever.

Extensive anthropometric research led to the Advantage Respirator's unique design.MSA's engineers examined facial form data of over 8,000 people and, with CAD technol-ogy, developed the Anthrocurve! Sealing Surface, which instantly conforms to eachwearer's uniquefacial characteristics.

The unmatched fit and comfort start with a soft, pliable combination of rubber andplastic that provide a virtually customized fit. These are key components in the patentedMultiFlex® System that equalizes pressure on the faceseal area, while delivering excep-tional stability, so the respirator will not collapse during wear.

Respiratory FiltersMSA offers a wide range of filters, for protection against organic or inorganic gases &vapours according to the required protection range. Gas filters are available in Class 1 & 2,Single or multiple range filters (ABEK). Combined filters can be used for protection againstorganic & inorganic gases & vapours, according to the required the protection range asagainst solid & liquid particles.

The service time of respiratory filters depends on the conditions of use. For gas or combinedfilters that are used against gases, the end of a filter's service life can usually be detected byodour, taste or irritation during inhalation. Some filters have a specified maximum servicetime [CO filter cartridges, combined filters 89 Hg/St].

For particle filters or combined filters that are used against particles, the end of service timecan be detected by an increase in inhalation resistance. With combined filters - dependingon the predominant protective function - both criteria must be observed. Particle filtersmust only be used once against radioactive contaminants, spores, bacteria, virus and prote-olytic enzymes.

Respirator CartridgesDesigned for easy installation, Advantage cartridges use the latest bayonet-style mountingdesign. Featuring a low lug height and lead-in connectors, the cartridges lock into placewith a single twist. An advanced engineering design makes negative pressure fit-testingeasier to perform.

The complete Advantage line of particulate, chemical and combination cartridges are ap-proved under 42 CFR Part 84. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) re-quires fit tests to ensure proper fit for workers who use respirators.

Filter cartridges protect against dusts, particles and mists. Chemical cartridges protectagainst gases and vapors. Combination cartridges deliver protection from both particulateand gaseous contaminants. All cartridges are interchangeable between the Advantage 200and 3000 respirators and are color-coded. Most are incinerable.

Comfort & Performance by Design

Guarding people against the daily hazards of noise is of paramount con-cern in countless industries. The challenge is to balance personal attenu-ation devices with comfort and the ability of communication andlistening to music, so that workers will wear their hearing protectors allthe time.

The most important factors to consider when selecting hearing protec-tion are the right performance and wearer comfort.

Whether working in noisy environments, for just a few minutes, or forseveral hours – hearing protection is always needed. A worker whotakes off his hearing protection because he does not feel 100% comfort-able is a worker at risk.

MSA offers a wide range of passive and electronic ear muffs as well asear plugs for DIY (Do-It-Yourself ) use, construction, industry, police andother applications. All products are comfortable hearing protectors, de-signed to prevent the wearer from feeling isolated.

All products are comfortable hearing protectors, designed to preventyou from feeling isolated, thereby encouragaing you to use them andso protecting your hearing for the rest of your life. Noise Reduction Rat-ing (NRR) is third-party tested in accordance with ANSI S3.19-1974 andEN352-3. Also meets CSA Z94.2.

Electronic ProtectionHow can users be encouraged to wear hearing protectors when working in harmful noise ?There are countless sources of noise directly linked to machinery and industrial processes :electrical machinery, tractors, industrial ventilation systems, diesel engines, chainsaws, wood working equipment, heavy industrial machinery, pumps and compressors, ... it is im-portant that the hearing protection used provides sufficient noise attenuation to protectthe user, but not so much that users are isolated from their auditory environment. Excessiveprotection can prevent users from hearing their workmates, alarms and other importantsignals. The challenge presented by electronic hearing protection devices is the necessity of balanc-ing the requirements of hearing protection with user comfort, ease of communication andthe desire to listen to music. left/RIGHT is a range of hearing protectors with built in electronic functions that offers pro-tection, communication and pleasure.

Thermal Imaging

For the Toughest Demands

MSA’s state-of-the-art Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC) are invaluabletools for fire fighters and police, e.g. for fast and safe navigation insmoke filled rooms or dark environments.

All TIC models feature the same ergonomic design, robust componentsand extreme durability. The image quality is best-in-class. But the MSATIC models each feature different resolutions in order to ensure the opti-mal price-performance ratio for each application.

The practical modular system allows all four types of camera to be en-hanced with a Video Transmission System or a Video Capture. The VideoTransmission System gives the back-up team a clear view of what ishappening on the fire ground in real time. Furthermore a unique VideoCapture for documentation purposes is easily adaptable to all fourcameras.

Total Protection Whatever the Demands

Portable Instruments

Portable measuring instruments and personal monitors can begrouped into three application areas:

Combustible GasesThere are three elements required to ignite combustible gases:1. Fuel or flammable gas2. Heat or a source of ignition3. Oxygen to support combustion

This is known as the fire triangle. If you remove any one of the elements, combustion will not occur. The percentage of combustible gas in the airis also important.

According to the ATEX manufacturer directive 94/9/EC and the user di-rective 99/92/EC, any personal monitor for flammable gases, if used as asafety device to reduce the risk of explosion, has to be performance approved.

Any manufacturer seeking ATEX EC certification must demonstrate that their product conforms to EN 61779 (or EN 50054) as a minimumrequirement for gaining ATEX approval. All MSA combustible gas detectors are designed to comply fully with ATEX standards and cantherefore be used as safety devices.

OxygenInstruments to monitor oxygen deficiency or enrichment (measure-ment in vol.% range), to warn of the danger of asphyxiation or to moni-tor the inerting of tanks and containers.

Toxic GasesIn order to recognise and measure toxic substances in the ambient air(typically in ppm – parts per million), multi-gas instruments such as ALTAIR 5X are used.
