Update #2389
To our valued Dayton Parts Distributors,
Dayton Parts is proud to announce our new All Makes Air Disc Brake program. To date, the foundation brake system of choice for class 8 trucks and trailers has been the s-cam drum brake. In the foreseeable future, with stopping distance regulations becoming more stringent, the Air Disc Brake system will become the new standard. Federal mandates of 250' or less have maxed out the potential of the conventional shoe and drum braking system. Starting in 2014, the implementation of Air Disc Braking systems have been on the rise. The European market is approximately 80% Air Disc Brake and with this trend in mind, Dayton anticipates the North American market is not too far behind adopting Air Disc Brakes as the standard. Air Disc Brakes have several advantages over traditional s-cam brakes. The advantages are as follows:
To take advantage of this growing market, Dayton Parts has put together a comprehensive all makes offering. The on-highway Air Disc Brake systems covered are:

Dayton Parts Air Disc Pads
Reman Air Disc Calipers Our Bendix and Meritor reman calipers are loaded with 23k or 29k disc pads.
Dayton Parts reman calipers come complete with the carrier bracket already assembled. Experience has shown when the caliper needs to be replaced the carrier bracket is worn.
Installation of the reman caliper saves significant time since replacement only requires removing the air chamber and the six carrier bracket bolts that mount the assembly to the torque (anchor) plate.
New calipers are offered for Hendrickson and Wabco applications. These calipers come unloaded and are available as complete assemblies only.
Air Disc Pads
Dayton Parts Air Disc Pads are available in a premium and standard grade of friction. Dayton Parts Air Disc Pads FMVSS-121 test results are shown on the opposite page. The Premium Marathon DiscStar test results are available from the Dayton Parts website. Here are the four air disc pads offered —
Dayton Parts 23AD - A standard grade friction good for on highway applications with general braking up to 23k.
Marathon DSHP - A premium grade 23k friction good for on highway applications with some moderate to severe braking.
Dayton Parts 29AD - A standard grade friction good for on or off highway applications up to 29k. This pad works really well at 26k.
Marathon DSTP - A premium grade 28.6k friction good for the really tough applications like refuse, logging, construction, mining or transit.

All Dayton Parts brand pads and rotors meet the following test criteria:FMVSS 121
• Meet Minimums and Maximums• Standard Brake Set Up and Disc/Drum• Products are tested for: • Burnishing • Stopping distance requirements • Brake Retardation, Power and Recovery
Not required for Aftermarket
ECE R90
• Match OE within 15%• Tested by Part Number to the Worst Case Vehicle Application• Products are tested for: • Bedding (burnishing) • Performance Check • Brake Tests • Cold Performance Equivalence and Speed Sensitivity Tests • Product Strength• All pads are marked with the approval number
All brake pads and linings manufactured and sold within the EU must comply
ISO 26866 Wear Testing - RotorsThe life cycle indicative wear test is the most stringent dynamometer test for pads and discs available. Using differing speeds and temperatures, nothing comes close to the severity of this fatigue analysis.
With almost 5000 braking cycles performed over 8 continuous days, only the most durable material is capable of passing this test.
Air Chambers - Dayton Parts offers two types of air chambers for air disc applications -
Bendix and Meritor applications – Dayton Parts offers a direct replacement for the Bendix piston design which is also compatible for Meritor On-Highway applications. These chambers come in an 1824 and 2024 configuration. These chambers come with the inlet ports clocked at 90 degrees to the mounting studs.
Wabco applications – Dayton Parts offer genuine Wabco OE air disc chambers in type 1824 and 2024. These chambers come with the inlet ports clocked at 45 degrees to the left or right of the mounting studs.
Although Dayton Parts recommends using an OE air chamber for disc brake applications; Dayton Parts offers an alternative double diaphragm combo chamber.
