communication skills, cultural understanding and self-confidence for students and recent
graduates.
Why do we run Global Passport?
The Vietnamese government has identified English speaking as the key to the country’s future
growth ambitions because of the strong influence of globalization on its economics, especially
employment.
CHALLENGES
Effective methods of teaching English are not always available in public education. A
major part of young Vietnamese cannot communicate well even they receive English

initiative. Continue this legacy, season 9 is a double realization Global Passport as well. By

STEP OUT Season 4
What is Step Out?
Step Out is a unique project of AIESEC Hanoi local chapter with the aim of creating a
generation of young people who dare to step out of comfort zone to see the world by their
own eyes, to discover the world by themselves and write their own stories. We believe that
"Youth's spirit comes from new experiences".
Why do we run Step Out?
The need and important of getting to know the world and being a change agent in youth
Nowadays, with globalization trend, the world becomes closer and flatter than ever. Being a
part the young generation in this current context, we understand how necessary and
important to know the big world out there. We all have many questions that need to be
answered, and the answers will not come if we just stay within in our familiar area. The world
now needs the youngsters with right risk-taking attitude who dare to step out of their comfort
Pag
e7
zone in order to see the world by their own eyes, with right action-oriented mindset to write
their own stories, develop themselves and make positive changes to society.
As Henry Rollins once said:
“I beg young people to travel. If you don’t have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a
backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown.
Eat interesting food. Dig some interesting people. Have an adventure. Be careful. Come back
and you’re going to see your country differently, you’re going to see your president differently,
no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You’re going
to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It’s not what Tom Friedman writes about; I’m
sorry. You’re going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people,
their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that
you can’t get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of
people—Americans and Europeans—come back and go, ohhhhh. And the light bulb goes on.,,
Youth need go more, explore more to see new things, new cultures, new people then have
global mindset, sympathy and deep look about everything around. That’s how youth will
develop and be the change agent that the world needs.
The reality in local
Even though giving the fact that travelling stands a vital role for personal development, a
part young people still choose to stay within their familiar zone and follow the plan that was
decided and well-prepared by their parents. As a result, the passivity becomes a barrier
prevents young people from living a meaningful life. This is because of the influence of the
family-oriented lifestyle of Vietnamese ancient customs, which leads to the over-protection
within family and this fact. At the same time, for other part of young people, they are taking
trips by themselves without good preparation, proper consideration and self-protection skills.
The direct alignment with AIESEC’s spirit: youth leadership development through exchange
Step Out encourages and equips young people crucial knowledge to step out of comfort
zone, to get the new experiences, to see and understand, respect different values and views
then make positive changes within themselves and community. If we do well, we can inspire

VIETNAM YOUTH ICON Season 7
What is Vietnam Youth Icon?
Vietnam Youth Icon is a trademark project of AIESEC Hanoi local chapter with the aim of
creating an ideal image of a young Vietnamese representative based on developing
leadership skill and youth responsibilities towards the society.
Why do we run Vietnam Youth Icon?
Today, in the era of advanced technology, globalization and the integration of various
cultures, young people, particularly in Vietnam are changing themselves to adapt to this
situation. However, they are overwhelmingly influenced and have no direction in terms of
having a proper mindset and lifestyle to develop in this modern world. Through series event
of the project, Vietnam Youth Icon strives for not only shaping the image of a confident,
dynamic, and responsible young generation, but also encouraging them to take action for
community benefits.

What is about Vietnam Youth Icon 7?
Since the first launch in July 2013, Vietnam Youth Icon has successfully developed leadership
and soft skills for many youngsters. In order to bring this project closer and better relevance to
the community, two sub-labels were created under Vietnam Youth Icon brand to directly
address hot issues, together with developing leadership skills among youngster:
Vietnam Youth Icon – ASEAN directly addresses to the hot topic in recent years:
ASEAN regional collaboration with the aim of enhancing understanding among ASEAN
countries as well as three main pillar of The ASEAN Community.
Vietnam Youth Icon – SRHR directly addresses to the Sexual and Reproductive
Health and Rights with the aim of generating awareness and enhancing understanding
of this issue.
Vietnam Youth Icon – ASEAN was well – organized in July 2015 for the first time and is going
to come back in this December 2015 with promising improvements.
Pag

For upcoming Vietnam Youth Icon 7, we will tab on the second sub-label: SHRH for the first
time, which will require us lots of preparation in both knowledge and understanding.
Why do we choose SRHR to work on?
Youth World Population Hits the Highest Number in History
Today, our world is home to 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 and a total of 717
million young people aged 15 to 24 lives in Asia Pacific region, comprising 60% of the world’s youth.
According to UNFPA State of World Population 2014, nearly 6 million girls in the Asia Pacific region
become mothers and girls who live in the top 5 countries with the highest number of adolescent fertility
give birth by the age of 18. This contributes to 5.4 billion births per year. In addition, there are around
39,000 girls get married every day against their basic human rights.
Laws in many countries create a mismatch between the age at which young people can consent to sex,
the age at which they can marry and the age at which they can access sexual and reproductive health
services. The age at which many young people begin having sex (and their need for sexual and
reproductive health services becomes more acute) may differ again. Most countries do not allow young
people below 18 to independently consent to medical interventions. Legislation in many countries
recognizes that young people can legally consent to sex from a younger age. For example,
In China, male and female can consent to sex as early as the age of 14, but the law only
recognizes their consent to medical intervention at the age of 18.
While in Philippines, male and female can consent to sex from the early age of 12, but can only
access medical intervention legally at the age of 18. Where the age of consent to sex is lower
than the age of consent to medical interventions, these young people may find themselves
unable to consent to the services they need to protect their sexual and reproductive health.
Youth Involvement in SRHR Determines World’s Future Generation
The choices young people are given and decisions they make now will affect future generations.
Therefore, the role and involvement of young people who are competent in leadership and advocacy
on SRHR is quite urgent. Not only they will be the voice for those who have been struggling for their
basic human rights and sexual rights but they will also be the key to open more access to SRH-related
information and facilities.

package.
