Post: Ambition for Ageing Community Support Worker

Purpose of this Post

To provide support for the Ambition for Ageing programme which operates in three wards in Wigan Borough: Pemberton, Leigh West and Atherton. In particular, the role involves supporting volunteers and providing monitoring and administrative support for the Peer Research project, producing a ‘What’s On’ newsletter in each ward every four months and assisting with community projects that are interested in investments

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. To support volunteers involved in the project.

2. To produce and ensure the timely distribution of three ‘What’s On’ newsletter aimed at people over 50 in each ward, every four months.

3. To schedule appointments for the Peer Research project as required.

4. To liaise with volunteers to collate information from the Peer Research project and ensure it is accurately recorded.

5. To ensure that all data is regularly inputted onto appropriate databases and spreadsheets.

6. To support or accompany volunteers who wish to attend the Older People Network or the Equalities Board meetings of Ambition for Ageing.

7. To assist in the planning and facilitation of community events within Atherton, Pemberton and Leigh West as necessary.

8. To support the Co-ordinator and Development Worker with the promotion of the service. This may include going out to events, developing posters and other publicity.

9. To assist with administration and database input in the absence of the administration Support Worker.

10.To support the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities under Health and Safety. You may be asked to take on roles such as First Aider, Health and Safety representative or Fire Marshall for which appropriate training will be given.

11.To support students on placements. This may include having students that shadow your work or performing a supervisory role. Appropriate training will be given.

12.To participate in Age UK Wigan Borough promotional events as required.

13.To work within all the guidelines, policies and procedures as set out by Age UK Wigan Borough.

14.To attend Induction, Training and any Staff Meetings as and when required.

15.To carry out any other duties as may be requested which are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
