Joint compressor and evaporator

4.0. Appliance description 4.1. Function overview 4.1.1. Refrigerator and BioFresh The refrigerator and BioFresh compartment are cooled by a joint evaporator. The evaporator is at the rear of the refrigerator and is thermally insulated from it by an insulated vertical partition panel. A direct current fan is used to coordinate the temperature between the refrigerator and the BioFresh compartment. The fan is integrated into the vertical partition panel. If the refrigerator needs cooling (identified by the refrigerator air sensor), the fan is switched on. The fan draws the warm air from the inside of the refrigerator and blows it downwards past the evaporator. The cold air from the BioFresh compartments is fed upwards into the refrigerator. When the compressor is active the fan turns at high speed. If the compressor is not active and the temperature in the refrigerator rises above the threshold valve set on the air sensor the fan cuts in at reduced speed. When the warm air from the refrigerator is blown past the evaporator, the evaporator warms up quickly and thus causes the compressor to cut in again. When the temperature in the refrigerator has dropped sufficiently the fan will be switched off. The compressor continues to run and the BioFresh compartments are cooled statically by the cold air being pushed downwards. The compressor continues to run until the air in the BioFresh compartment is cold enough (identified by the BioFresh air sensor). 4.1.2. 4-star freezer compartment Joint foam-encased evaporator in the refrigerator and BioFresh compartment. The freezer compartment is always cooled with the other components as soon as the compressor cuts in. See 4.2 for a principle sketch.

5.0. Control and function parts 5.1. Refrigerator Electronics: Control and power board. The micro controller and EEPROM are on

the control board

Display range: 0°C to +9°C

Adjustment range: +4°C to +9°C

Interior light: Cuts out after the door has been open for 15 minutes

Fan: Cuts in if the refrigerator air sensor becomes too warm and out again when it is cold enough. When the compressor is inactive the fan works at half-speed (due to reduced voltage, approx. 7-11V) and it is switched off entirely when the door is open.

Air sensor: Forms a display value, switches the fan on and off. Position: Behind the light casing.

Evaporator sensor: Switches the compressor on after defrosting.

Ambient sensor: Switches on the winter heating system if the ambient temperature is low. The sensor is soldered on to the control board.

Winter heating system: Position: In the refrigerator on the inside right at the front.

SuperCool function: Cools to +4°C for a period of 6 hours.

Defrosting: Automatic whilst the compressor is inactive, ended by the evaporator sensor.

5.2. BioFresh compartment Electronics: The BioFresh compartment and refrigerator are controlled by a joint

electronic system (see refrigerator electronics). Display range: No display

Adjustment range: The temperature is controlled automatically and remains constant at just over 0°C, but may be altered slightly if necessary: Switch off the appliance. First press both arrow button and then also press the On/Off button. A “b” following by a number will appear alternately in the temperature display. The number can be adjusted from 0 to 9.

If you wish to set a warmer temperature, increase the number, press the “warmer” arrow button (arrow up). If you want a colder temperature press the “colder” arrow (arrow down).

Save by pressing the alarm button. Temperature alarm: No alarm Air sensor: Switches off the compressor when it is cold enough in the BioFresh

compartment. Position: Behind the top drawer. Defrosting: Joint evaporator with refrigerator, see point 5.1.

5.3. 4-star freezer compartment There is no temperature setting for the 4-star freezer compartment, the temperature depends on the compressor run time. Extending the compressor run time will produce a lower temperature. The compressor run time can be extended by the following action: • Set a colder BioFresh temperature (see point 5.2.). • Set a warmer refrigerator temperature (for example +7°C). The air temperature in the 4-star freezer compartment can fluctuate relatively widely. The lower the ambient temperature and the emptier the compartment, the greater are the fluctuations. The core temperature of the frozen food will be around the mean value of these fluctuations.

6.0. Refrigeration circuit 6.1. Refrigerator and BioFresh

Evaporator: The refrigerator evaporator is encased in foam in the rear panel. This evaporator is not a honeycomb evaporator and is connected to the freezer evaporator, which is also encased in foam.

Refrigerant insertion point / Flow sequence: Freezer compartment ceiling – refrigerator evaporator – freezer compartment base.

Compressor: Standard compressor 6.2. 4-star freezer compartment U-shaped bent panel evaporator encased in foam, connected in series with the encased refrigerator evaporator.

9.0. Self-test

To start the self-test

At the start all the sensors must be at a temperature of more than +10°C and the door must be open. If a sensor is at a temperature of less than +10°C, skip test step 1. Start Press SuperCool (4) and also ON/OFF (1). Test step 1

• “P 1” flashes in the display. • The compressor and fan cut in. • Move on to test step 2 within 7 minutes:

Press SuperCool (4) and also the “warmer” arrow button (2). Test step 2

• The interior light switches on, “8” flashes in the display. (If the door is closed “P 2” will flash. After the door has been opened “8” will flash).

• The compressor remains on, the fan will only run if the door contact switch is actuated. • Test the light switch (press once). • Press all the buttons once, each time you press a button the SC LED must light up. • When you have pressed all the buttons, the system will automatically move on to test step 3.

Test step 3

• “P 3” flashes in the display. • The compressor is switched off. • Press and hold SuperCool => the compensation heating system (7 W) will be started.

If the ambient temperature sensor is defective, error code “F U” is now displayed. • Move on to test step 4: Press SuperCool and also the “warmer” arrow button. Test step 4

• “H 4” flashes in the display. • The compressor switches on (the coil protection switch may trip because the pressure may not have

equalised). • Press SuperCool, each time you press it the fan switches between the high speed (H), low speed (L)

and off (A). The status is shown in the display (in brackets), followed by the test step number (for example L4).

• Move on to test step 5: Press SuperCool and also the “warmer” arrow button.

Test step 5

• “P 5” flashes in the display. • The compressor and fan switch off. • Move on to test step 6: Press SuperCool and also the “warmer” arrow button. Test step 6

• The real temperature values (in other words without offset) of the following sensors are displayed and repeated continuously:

Sensor, sample temperature / Sequence of symbols, example

Evaporator sensor, e.g. –13°C / ≡ o -13

Refrigerator air sensor, e.g. +11°C / ≡ L 11

BioFresh air sensor, e.g. +5°C / ≡ b 5 • The appliance is in controlled mode during this process. The current nominal value will apply. • End the self-test by pressing SuperCool and the “warmer” arrow button.
