AdventWhat is it all about?
Advent means ‘the coming’ of something.
Christians have FOUR Sundays to get
ready to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
The first Sunday of Advent is the beginning of the Christian Church's
year.
Why have an Advent Wreath?
• The wreath is -a circle to show that Gods love goes on -and green to show new hope. • The four outer candles are for the
four Sundays of Advent
The four traditional advent themes
• The Candle of HOPE
• The Candle of PEACE
• The Candle of LOVE
• The Candle of JOY
• A fifth candle is sometimes lit in the middle to celebrate the birth of Jesus
• The first candle of Advent, is the candle of hope. We remember the hope we have in Jesus.
• As the followers of Jesus, we await • his return. • We light this candle to remember that as he
came to us as humbly in the manger at Bethlehem and gave light to the world, so he is coming again in power to deliver his people.
