ACP PRO Venous Registry Now Accepting Data

The highly anticipated ACP PRO Venous Registry officially launched during the 2014 ACP Annual Congress this past November in Phoenix, AZ. Conference attendees were given an opportunity to get hands-on with the interface, as well as gain a better understanding of how the registry will allow them to benchmark their uploaded EMR data against that of the full database.

“Physicians will be able to compare their patient information against national and regional data,” stated Sean Mullen, CEO of Streamline MD, the ACP’s first certified EMR vendor. “This really opens up the opportunities to engage payers based on hard, verifiable statistics.”

Since 2012, the ACPF has allocated funds towards the development of the first medical database in the community with a specific focus on venous disease. In a relatively short period of time, the American College of Phlebology (ACP) used that funding to build the ACP PRO Venous Registry, a robust database which incorporates both physician and patient reported outcome (PRO) data through the use of ACP certified EMR systems.

Compliant with all medical and professional standards (HIPPA, Sarbanes-Oxley, ACA, ABVLM), data from vein clinics or individual practices is now being accepted. This record consolidation presents an exciting opportunity for participants and ACP committee

volunteers to engage insurers, policymakers and the public about vein disease using real-time, comprehensive data.

As a direct result of ACPF donor support, the ACP PRO Venous Registry will soon open the door for publications regarding disease protocols, patient demographics and treatment outcomes with a projected 5,000 patient records secured by November 2015.

The Next Two Years... I am honored to have begun my term as Chairman of the ACPF Board of Directors. In filling this position I will be stepping into the shoes of Dr. Nick Morrison, which will be no easy task; Nick is the consummate diplomat and I can think of no finer representative for this foundation. None-the-less I will endeavor to build on the important work that Nick and those before him have started.

I see my ACPF term as an opportunity to further many transitional projects established during my tenure as ACP President. I assured Dr. Mark Forrestal, incoming ACP President (2015 – 2017), that the Foundation will continue to aggressively support the ACP’s strategic vision. As its dedicated partner in advancing the interests of the venous disease community through investment in education, research and growth initiatives, this symbiotic relationship remains crucial to both organizations’ strategic futures.

As part of this, the ACPF is busily executing a robust agenda for 2015 including continued support for:

» Enhancement of the ACP Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) Venous Registry

» Advancement of new and existing ACP educational offerings

» Scholarship support for medical students interested in venous disease

» Renewing a shared strategic vision for the venous disease community

The ACPF is also interested in furthering:

» Expanded focus on increasing the number of accredited phlebology training fellowships

» Establishing a prioritized research agenda for evidence based studies in venous disease

» Exploring patient awareness initiatives to enhance public knowledge of venous disease

There is so much to accomplish! However, with limited funds, ACPF can’t do everything, so a key step is to align ACPF supporters with the ACP’s strategic vision for the future. This critical stage begins in July 2015 with the ACPF Executive Leadership Summit 2015 (ELS). All qualified ACPF donors are invited to attend the event. I look forward to my service as the ACPF Chair and I hope to see you at the ELS 2015 in Chicago, IL.

AVBLM, Setting the Standard for Patient Care Since the ACPF funded the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine’s (ABVLM) first certification effort in vein care in 2006, the ABVLM has been raising professional standards of care in the treatment of patients suffering from venous disease.

“ACPF gave us our start by helping fund the interests of ACP members who wanted to define what medical professionals should be bringing to the table when treating venous disease,” explained Chris Freed, ABVLM Executive Director. “The ABVLM is currently engaged in raising the standards for venous care by targeting medical institutions curriculum as well as identifying individuals needing remedial training in venous disease treatment.”

“Our ultimate goal is to elevate the treatment of venous disease to the highest standards of medicine, whether that means achieving the future recognition for our certification exam by the American Board of Medical Specialties or continuing to raise professional standards of care by advocacy,” stated Steven Zimmet, MD, ABVLM chair.

The ACPF is proud to recognize the 675 medical professionals who have earned the distinction of ABVLM Diplomate status, and pleased to report that 78% of them are active ACP members.

87% of the 675 AVBLM Diplomates are ACP Members

8th Annual Golf Outing a Big Hit

The 8th annual golf outing, held in Scottsdale, AZ, on November 5th, 2014, raised an impressive $58,000 towards the mission of the ACP

Foundation. 82 golfers enjoyed the cacti and indigenous species residing on the nature preserve at the Wildfire Country Club.

The 9th Annual Golf Outing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11th, 2015. For more information and photos from the 2014 Annual

Golf Outing and updates about next year’s event, please visit www.acpfgolfouting.org

A special thanks also goes to the 2014 event sponsors, who helped make the outing a success:

Annual Silent Auction Goes Digital

With more than 1,000 attendees at the 2014 ACP Annual Congress in Phoenix, AZ, nearly 400 participated in the ACPF’s 7th Annual

Silent Auction. The event was a great success, raising $40,000 from winning bidders and sponsors. Net proceeds from the auction will

fund the ACP Foundation’s projects and further the mission of advancing vein care.

For the second year running the auction was conducted digitally, allowing participants to bid on site as well as from home.

“Congress attendees are getting the hang of the digital auction. It was great to see everyone- even at-home players- engaging in all the fun,”

enthused Ann Allen, ACP member and volunteer.

Christine Sirgado, Co-Chair of the 2014 auction and Paramount MD’s Vice President of Operations, is particularly excited about the

years, we will see even greater growth in participants and fundraising,” Sirgado explained.

The ACPF would like to extend a thank you to all those who participated in the 7th Annual

Auction, especially to the 65 donors who provided 100 items for auction. Without these

charitable donations, the auction would not be the success that it is. The ACPF is currently

accepting item donations for the 2015 silent auction, scheduled for November

11th-14th, 2015 in Orlando, FL.

Show Your Support for the ACPF

Are you interested in donating to the ACPF but not quite sure how? You’ll be pleased to find

that there are plenty of opportunities to demonstrate your financial support for the venous

disease community. Investment options for ACP members and venous organizations include:

» Program attendance, exhibition and sponsorship

» Publications and advertising

» Membership and product sales

» Special events (Golf Outing, Silent Auction)

» Major gifts (campaigns, multi-year grants) The Annual Appeal

Another way to show your support is the Annual Appeal. The Annual Appeal is a great

opportunity for those who do not typically support the ACP Foundation to invest in the

advancement of the specialty. The renewable donation allows supporters to review their

investment on a yearly basis. The ACPF wants to recognize all of its donors and allow those

with more modest resources to support the specialty.

Under the leadership of Drs. C. Christopher Pittman and Satish V. Vayuvegula,

the 2014 Annual Appeal raised nearly $110,000 from eleven corporate and

twenty-two member supporters.

Funds received through the Annual Appeal are allocated to additional projects in the given

year, which are not previously budgeted by the ACPF. While major gifts and campaign giving

are focused on longer term goals of the ACPF, Appeal donors can target the development of

specific projects with their support.

Define the Future of the Specialty: Attend the 2015 Leadership Summit

Would you like to have a greater impact on the trajectory of the ACPF and

the venous disease community? The 2015 Executive Leadership Summit

(ELS) is the ideal opportunity to voice your opinions and help shape the

future of the specialty.

All qualifying ACPF supporters are invited to attend the 2nd Executive

Leadership Summit in Chicago, IL from July 24th-26th, 2015.

Two major objectives of the ELS are to project the future of this medical

community and identify investment projects with the potential to have a

noticeable impact on that vision. During the first ELS, held in August 2012,

attendees established their objectives for the future of venous disease

treatment and practices. Sixty industry executives and medical professionals

spent the 2-day open forum debating their ideas about the interests and issues impacting the

community.

As a result of that debate, the ACPF published the 2012 Executive Leadership Summit Report,

a white paper which heavily influenced the ACP’s 2013-2016 Strategic Plan. Both documents

have guided the objectives and efforts of the ACPF and industry leaders.

Pre-registration for the 2015 ELS is now open to all qualified donors. Participants will register on a first come, first served basis by meeting the following:

» Active corporate donor of the ACP Foundation: » Vision for Tomorrow (VFT) supporter at or above the Friend level » Annual Appeal (2014 or 2015) supporter at or above the One Star level

» Active member donor: » Vision for Tomorrow (VFT) supporter at or above the Gold level » Annual Appeal (2014 or 2015) supporter at or above the Investor level

Active supporters are defined by having made a financial donation in

2014 or 2015.

Registration is limited to 80 participants.

Anyone interested in attending who does not meet the donor qualifications should contact the

development office to discuss their options.

Lodging, meals and activities during the weekend will be hosted for all attendees. Registrants are

only responsible for travel expenses and incidentals.

For more information please consult the leadership brochure available online at http://www.

phlebology.org/about-us/annual-reports-documents, or contact the development office at

[email protected] or (510) 346-6800 ext. 125.
