SPS IPC Drives | advance product news 2/2014

Considering the continuously increasing competitive pressure, the time when production alone was suffi-cient to ensure lasting success is long gone. Compa-

nies need to manufacture their products faster, more flexi-bly, and more intelligently. Siemens is paving the way to better production with innovative solutions and products.

Efficient solutions for every area of application

One of the major product innovations promoting flexible production and presented at SPS IPC Drives is the series of new Simatic controllers focusing on fail-safe CPUs. For the first time, a Simatic S7-1500 software controller for PC-based automation and a modular open controller, which combines a PC-based software controller, visualization, and centralized I/Os in a single device, are now on offer. Thanks to optimal scalability, the right controller is available for every field of application. All devices can be efficiently configured in the new TIA Portal V13 SP1. The HMI portfolio has also been fur-ther expanded with the new, especially rugged panels for outdoor use, for example.

The new integrated drive technology products are all about greater efficiency, too. The Simotics motors in effi-ciency class IE4 with gray cast iron and aluminum housings

enable especially high energy savings and reduced operat-ing costs. Because there are no differences in shaft height from IE1 to IE4, users can easily replace the motors. The col-lection of inverters has been expanded with the second generation of the modular Sinamics G120 inverter series. The new generation of rugged devices is available in three voltage variants and, thanks to new power unit technology, offers higher power density in a space-saving size. The Integrated Drive System (IDS) for potentially explosive areas, consisting of a perfectly coordinated Simotics XP explo-sion-proof motor and a Sinamics G180 frequency inverter, enables maximum safety combined with maximum effi-ciency.

Save time, money, and space

The comprehensive portfolio for better production is com-pleted by innovations from the areas of industrial iden-tification, communication, and controls. For example, the Simatic RF600 RFID system offers a new generation of es-pecially reliable UHF readers that enable extremely fast and cost-effective diagnostics and commissioning in production and logistics. With the new Scalance M DSL routers, users can control even large industrial plants remotely, by using existing public or private networks. Another innovation is the Sirius modular system in size S2. The switching, protec-tive, and monitoring devices for currents of up to 80 A and with an output of up to 37 kW are IE3-suited and, with a mounting width of only 55 mm, require little space in the control cabinet.

siemens.com/sps-ipc-drives

Under the slogan “Making Things Right,” Siemens presents its comprehensive portfolio at the trade fair booth, which is now in Hall 11 at SPS IPC Drives 2014 in Nuremberg. Visitors can expect to see numerous product innova- tions for all industries and areas of application.

The familiar and proven Simatic controller portfolio has been expanded. In addition to the Simatic S7-1200 Basic Controller for simple and stand-alone applications and

the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller for complex appli-cations, the distributed controller series now also includes a Software Controller based on Simatic S7-1500 for PC-based automation and a compact Open Controller with PC-based Software Controller, visualization, and centralized I/Os in a single device. The new generation of Simatic controllers ex-pands the line of Simatic controllers, which are scalable in terms of performance and functionality. The more powerful controllers build on the functionality of the smaller ones. Users benefit from uniform processes and high efficiency during engineering, operation, and maintenance.

Distributed and PC-based automation

The compact Simatic ET 200SP Open Controller is the new-est addition to the line of modular distributed controllers and is particularly suited for series machine manufacturing. It is the first controller of this type to combine the functions of a PC-based Software Controller with visualization func-tions, Windows applications, and centralized I/Os in a single compact device. The Open Controller can be flexibly ex-panded with standard ET 200SP modules and can be opti-mized for machines with a distributed architecture. Thanks to its compact design, it requires little space in the control cabinet.

PC-based automation is another new feature of this generation of Simatic controllers. The CPU 1507S Software Controller, based on the Simatic S7-1500 for PC-based auto-

mation with Simatic industrial PCs, is operated independently from Windows and thus has high system availability. The combination of PC-based control systems and high-level language programs is particularly suited for special-purpose engineering. When it comes to programming and handling during engineering tasks, the new Software Controller is fully compatible with the standard Simatic S7-1500 control-lers.

Safety Integrated

Safety Integrated CPUs for fail-safe automation are at the core of the portfolio expansion. All Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controllers, and for the first time the Simatic S7-1200 Basic Controllers as well as the Simatic ET 200SP Distributed Con-trollers, are now available in fail-safe versions. In the Step 7 Safety V13 SP1 engineering tool, the user can create pro-grams for the Simatic fail-safe controller using the same engineering and operating environment for standard and safety-related tasks.

Efficient engineering

The new Simatic controllers are seamlessly integrated into the TIA Portal engineering framework. This makes engineer-ing, configuring, and using new functions easier. Thanks to the shared database in TIA Portal, comprehensive software and hardware functions are able to efficiently carry out all automation tasks.

Simatic ET 200SP CPU / ET 200SP Open Controller

Compact controllers for distributed applications

The new Simatic ET 200SP CPU Distributed Controller is a modular distributed controller that is compact and flexible. Thanks to its compact design, it requires little

space in the control cabinet. As it has the same storage sys-tems, volumes, and features as the Simatic S7-1511 and S7-1513 CPUs, customer programs with varying design types can be used. Three Industrial Ethernet ports with variable bus adapters (RJ45, FC, SCRJ) have been integrated for flex-ible bus connection. Option handling in the central con-figuration also makes it possible to flexibly retrofit op-tions without engineering effort. The distributed controller series is rounded off with the first 1510SP F CPU and 1512SP F CPU for modular and fail-safe automation. This makes it possible to implement standard and fail-safe ap-plications using one controller in the ET 200SP. Another benefit is its high investment protection, because once a user program has been developed, TIA Portal makes it pos-sible to easily port the program to both Simatic S7-1200 and Simatic S7-1500 controllers.

The compact Simatic ET 200SP Open Controller is another addition to the modular distributed controller series and is particularly suited for series machine manufacturing. It is the first controller of this type to combine the functions of a PC-based Software Controller with visualization, Windows ap-plications, and centralized I/Os in a single compact device. This means that users need to stock fewer spare parts, and evaluation and maintenance efforts are also significantly re-duced. The Open Controller can be flexibly expanded with

Simatic ET 200SP / ET 200MP – time‑based I/O modules

Precision at high speeds

With the new time-based I/O modules for the Simatic ET 200MP and ET 200SP distrib-

uted I/O system, production sequences can be flexibly implemented regardless of the controller’s or fieldbus’s perfor-mance. The new modules provide input and output signals with detailed time information. For example, the reaction to an event occurring at the DI can be a specific delay time for the reaction of the output signal – independently of the cycle times of the controller or the application cycle. Time-based I/O mod-ules also increase the plant’s produc-tivity by taking over additional perfor-mance tasks from the CPU and by pro-viding exact repeatability and high precision in production, even with fast-paced events.

Applications can be easily and fle-xibly implemented in TIA Portal. This is true for cam controls and sensing probes, as well as for other applications

TeleControl Server Basic V3 / CPs for Simatic S7‑1200

More flexible remote access

With the new Version 3.0 of the TeleControl Server Basic control center software and new products for mobile radio communication, Siemens extends its

offering for simple telecontrol applications. TeleControl Basic makes it possible to monitor and control automated plants from one central control center by means of remote terminal units (RTUs) in spatially distributed process stations. Typical areas of application include sewage and water treat-ment plants, district heating systems, and pump stations, as well as oil and gas supply, power distribution, and transpor-tation.

TeleControl Basic primarily uses the modular Simatic S7-1200 compact controller to implement the RTUs. With their communication processors, the controllers are directly connected to the mobile network. The use of a CP 1243-1 communication processor, for instance, makes it possible to connect over an external industrial router, such as Scalance M via WAN or Internet so the S7-1200 controllers can communicate with the control center PC. Using Tele-Control Server Basic in the control center, HMI/SCADA cli-ents can access process data and control processes via stan-dard OPC interfaces. In addition to OPC DCOM, V3 also sup-ports OPC UA. With the new OPC UA functions, temporary interruptions to the OPC client can be bridged better, and

Sinema Server SP1

Early detection of network faults

The updated Sinema Server network management soft-ware offers a variety of new functions for the quick and easy localization of faults in automation networks. A

prerequisite of efficient fault localization is that the status of network devices always be indicated correctly and clearly. A change of status can have many different causes, which are recorded and stored in the form of events. Using Sinema Server Service Pack SP1, it is now possible to assemble any number of these events in groups and configure their influ-ence on the indicated device status, such as “OK,” “Warning,” “Error,” or “Failure.” Among other things, this gives users the opportunity to define new diagnostic events for a Simatic PLC, for instance.

The tool can also be used to detect and indicate appli-cation-specific events in addition to the SNMP network diagnostics alone. The updated software version has been expanded to include the diagnosis of dropped frames, mean-

ing device interfaces where telegrams are lost. In addition to the equipment lists, any information on the interfaces can now be displayed in tabular form. This extends and simpli-fies the evaluation and documentation of port connections or port statistics data, simplifying port-dependent diagnos-tic settings. In addition, the recognition of the network to-pology has been optimized so that it is possible to recognize connections between devices that themselves contain only incomplete information, or none at all, about their imme-diate neighbors. It is now possible, thanks to new profiles, to automatically troubleshoot additional devices, such as the Scalance W network products, in accordance with the 802.11n standard. To ensure that no important event is over-looked even in large networks, the central monitoring of several Sinema servers has been supplemented with a trend and alarm function.

Industrial communication | advance product news 2/2014

The new version of the Industrial Ethernet FastCon-nect RJ45 Plug 180 4x2 offers a variety of new fea-tures and functions: a significantly enhanced assem-

bly of Industrial Ethernet FastConnect installation cables 4×2 (eight-core twisted-pair installation cables) in the field, cable standard Cat 6A for a very high cable quality in the industrial area, and a transmission rate of up to 10 Gbps thanks to RJ45 interfaces. This makes the option of powerful, provider-independent cabling now available in industrial environments. Depending on the require-ments, different data or telecommunications networks can be realized very flexibly thanks to cabling with 4x2 twisted-pair cables and the new plug connectors – resulting in a virtually all-purpose cabling solution. Thanks to the standardized, future-proof cables and plugs, the components can be used over many years, resulting in considerable cost savings.

Assembly of the new plug connector works as usual, by means of the Industrial Ethernet FastConnect stripping tool for the preparation of cable ends (stripping off cable sheathing and shielding in one go). This enables easy handling and a quick, error-free contact between cable and plug connector thanks to color-coded insulation dis-placement contacts matching the respective core color in the cable. The cores of the prepared cable ends are intro-duced into the core manager of the RJ45 plug and emerge above and below the male plug of the connector without any limitation in length, so that working with eight cores is extremely easy. In closing both covers of the housing, the cores are contacted by displacement contacts at the

same time, and the overlapping cores are cut off to the right length by blades inside the housing. The plug-in con-nector is immediately ready for operation after this step. As the connector does not have any parts that can be lost, assembly is possible even under difficult industrial con-ditions. The new plug connector makes it possible to im-plement point-to-point connections for Industrial Ether-net between two end devices or network components at a distance of up to 100 m, without patch technology in a time-saving and error-free way.

IDS for Ex applications

The new Integrated Drives System (IDS) for Ex applications enables maximum safety and efficiency. It has been optimized along all three IDS dimensions and also impresses with minimal installation effort and low operating costs.

The IDS portfolio has now been extended to include applications in explosion-protected areas. IDS for Ex areas, consisting of a Sinamics G180 frequency inverter

and a Simotics XP Ex motor, are perfectly coordinated. Con-sequently, the drive system requires only minimum installa-tion effort and eliminates the need for the usual certification process. It also offers low operating costs thanks to its high energy efficiency (class IE2) and inverter operation.

Triple efficiency

True to the IDS philosophy of three-dimensional integration – horizontal, vertical, and lifecycle – the IDS Ex protection drives have also been perfected for all three dimensions. With regard to their horizontal integration into the drivetrain, starting in January 2015 the components will meet the ener-gy-efficiency requirements of IES standard EN 50598 and fully exploit the energy-savings potential with their high sys-tem efficiency. In order to achieve this, the pulse frequencies of the Sinamics G180 have been optimized to use the motor effectively, and the output currents of the inverter have been adapted to the rated current of the motor (from 2.2 kW). The frequency inverters can be used in combination with standard

insulated motors, even at 690 V and with long motor cables. When it comes to vertical integration into the automation system, the new drive system excels with its integrated sys-tem mechanisms that support the interaction of the control system with the HMI and also interact perfectly with the Simatic PCS 7 process control system. The consistent system configuration of the motor and the inverter make engineer-ing with Sizer for Siemens drives or with DT Configurator easy and straightforward.

IDS for Ex areas also shines when it comes to lifecycle in-tegration as it comprises all servicing tasks throughout the plant’s entire lifecycle. The ability to achieve guaranteed per-formance levels and generate customized documentation enables highly efficient plant design. Integrated diagnostics and remote maintenance, along with worldwide after-sales support, ensure high availability while the plant is in opera-tion. And, last but not least, for modernization, plant oper-ators benefit from retrofit solutions, including specific adap-tations such as plug and play, and energy-efficiency services. All in all, IDS reduces the maintenance costs of production plants by up to 15%.

now available in aluminum housing (Simotics General Purpose) with a power range of 2.2 to 18 kW, as well as in gray cast iron housing (Simotics Severe Duty) with a power range of 2.2 to 200 kW, as two- and four-pole mo-tors. The Simotics GP and Simotics SD IE4 motors stand out due to their efficiency, which is up to 14% higher than IE1 motors and thus entails lower power losses for the plant operator. This allows for significant energy savings and correspondingly, for reduced operating costs. The motors can be operated directly on line or with a con-verter, which makes planning more flexible. All motors, including the IE4 versions, have the same power rating- shaft height assignment, so the motors can simply be ex-changed. Simotics low-voltage motors are particularly suited for pump, fan, and compressor applications in all industries.

Simatic RF600

UHF RFID systems offer many advantages when it comes to identifying objects along the supply chain. With its new generation of readers, Siemens delivers important functionality, enabling plant owners to implement UHF projects quickly and cost-effectively.

The new generation of UHF readers from Siemens com-prises three devices with different functions and per-formance categories. They offer a variety of options to

reduce costs for project execution and downtimes. The integrated software, for example, features many commis-sioning and diagnostics tools, and the Simatic RF685R reader is equipped with an adaptive antenna for particularly high coverage.

Reliable readers for production

The UHF reader Simatic RF680R with four connectors for ex-ternal antennas and the Simatic RF685R with one integrated antenna and one external antenna connector are primarily de-signed for use in automated environments ‒ for example, in production lines. But they can also be used in applications in logistics processes that are closely related to production, so they have a high degree of protection (IP65) and are equipped with a wide array of diagnostics options. The integrated dual polarization antenna is the key feature of the RF685R. When plants are being designed, it is not always immediately clear whether antennas with linear or circular polarization will be needed, which is why the integrated antennas of the RF685R, which can switch from one mode to another, prove to be an advantage. The antenna can be adjusted automatically, in-creasing the reading and writing reliability. Furthermore, the RF685R also performs difficult identification tasks in highly reflecting environments. With the integrated Profinet port, the UHF reader can be easily integrated into Simatic S7 auto-mation systems using the appropriate function blocks. The device is configured in TIA Portal. Diagnostics can be per-formed during operation, either via remote control or locally via a second Industrial Ethernet connection, without having to interrupt the higher-level system.

Powerful readers for logistics

The Simatic RF650R UHF reader is an economical alternative for logistics applications that do not require a special degree of protection or do not have high transmission power re-quirements.

Easy integration and diagnostics

All the devices in the new generation of readers can be integrated into IT environments using Ethernet, TCP/IP, and XML protocols. The integrated web server makes it possible to commission, configure, and troubleshoot all three types of devices – RF680R, RF685R, and RF650R – via web-based management. It is not necessary to install additional soft-ware on the PC or update existing configuration and diag-nostics software.

New features

Many additional applications are made possible with the new V6.5 firmware functions

for optical reading systems. The up-grade includes improved set-up and main tenance functions, the ability to read dot codes, uncalibrated verifica-tion in accordance with ISO 29158, and faster text and object recognition. With the new firmware, the Simatic MV420 and MV440 optical reading systems can be parameterized and configured on separate hardware. The set of para-meters generated offline can then be transferred back to the plant’s reading systems. Production thus needs to be interrupted only very briefly.

The dot code is especially suited for applications with low product unit prices because product label defects caused by lower labeling costs (e.g., ink-jet printing) are compensated by the larger labeling area and error cor-rection mechanisms. Uncalibrated ver-ification in accordance with ISO 29158 makes it possible to record the label
