*Terms and conditions apply/subject to eligibility criteria
ARE YOUR LACK OF SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS HOLDING YOU BACK?Maths and English skills are used every single day and a lot of the time you probably don’t even realise it!
At Preston’s College we can help you gain the skills and qualifications you need, to help children with their homework, to progress to university level study or gain access to 100s of job opportunities where good levels of Maths and English are essential. We understand that Maths and English are not everyone’s favourite subjects and they might remind you of some bad memories from your school days, but with the right support from our tutors and a range of levels to suit your ability, we believe you can overcome any barrier. Plus, all courses are FREE of charge*. Are you ready to take on the challenge? Here’s what you need to do:
BOOK AN ASSESSMENTVisit www.preston.ac.uk/assessment-booking/ or call 01772 22 55 22 to speak to an advisor. Assessments can last up to three hours if you are being assessed for both subjects, although this may seem like a long time it’s important for us to know what level you are most suited for.
PREPARE FOR YOUR ASSESSMENTSome of your Maths and English skills might be a bit rusty, so if you can, we’d recommend that you set some time aside to practise your skills before taking your assessment. You can do this by visiting www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise where there are plenty of revision guides. If you are not ready for GCSE, Functional Skills courses will help you to prepare for GCSE the following year.
ATTEND YOUR ASSESSMENTYou’ll receive reminders by text and email to attend your assessment, if you need to rearrange please get in touch with us, so we can open up the slot to other customers. At the end of your assessment you’ll get your results and a tutor will be on hand to talk you through the variety of attendance options available.
START YOUR CLASSESCourses last 9 weeks (English) or up to 12 weeks (Maths) and you’ll need to be able to commit to attending college for two days a week with each class lasting three hours. There are morning, afternoon and evening class options available. You’ll be supported throughout by specialist tutors and in classes with people at the same ability level. At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to progress to the next level.

JO GRUBBStudied: PGCE Certificate of Education
Job role: High Needs Co-ordinator
Jo had always been interested in teaching but
didn’t think she had the time or focus for study as
a busy mum with three children. After graduating
in 2017 with the PGCE Post 14 qualification, she
now supports students who need additional help
to study at a College.
“My course gave me confidence in dealing with
young people and helped me learn how to
structure my time effectively. I had to be very
motivated and it was a challenge to study part-time
over the two years but the course was flexible and
the tutor was brilliant, very patient and supportive.
I think Preston’s College is good at taking people
with little experience and transforming them into
well prepared, work ready individuals.”
