Adele: Chasing Pavements

As part of our research we’ve looked at this existing music video that relates to our genre. The reason why indie was our chosen genre this is because in most indie music videos characters expresses their feelings in to situations that they have been through in their lives.

The chasing pavement video shows us that Adele is expressing her feelings to the audiences this is because her previous relationship her boyfriend cheated on her, which has lead to conflict. The name of the soundtrack “chasing pavements” connotes, how in reality, the man and the woman have there back turned and lie motionless after the disaster for e.g. the car crash incident. However during the chorus when she's referring to chasing pavements, they seem to move towards each other and seem to be compromising that relationship shown in this screenshot.

However the second screenshot below signifies that the couple embracing and then the woman hands the man a break-up letter and turns over to the shadowy figure representing another man. She then turns back and tries to get that relationship back, but he’s reluctant.

The music video signifies that Adele woman who is tattered between staying with the man she should be with or going off to chase relationships which will lead no where because she knows where her place is and who she needs to be with.

The album cover of this music video connotes that she feels isolated and secure about her relationship. This is because she is chasing pavements, which will lead to not solving her problem.

Focus lighting is often used in the album this connotes that she’s a strong character.Low-key lighting is also used in the album cover, which shows that she has a strong sense of feelings towards relationship.

Her facial expressions tells the audience that she feels insecure and scared.
