Activities in 2016-17:
GTVM – 2017 (15th March, 2017):
As a regular practice of interaction of M.Sc.(Computer Science) students
with Industrialist/Academics, this year the department of computer science
conducted program on 15th March, 2017. Department conducted power
point presentation competition among students on latest technologies.
Students gave seminars on 13 topics and 26 students participated. List is
enclosed herewith.
We invited the speakers as follows:
1. “BIG DATA ANALYTICS”, Prof. VV Hara Gopal, Professor, Dept. of
Statistics, OU, Hyderabad.
2. “DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS – ISSUES (MOBILE BANKING)”, Prof. VN Sastry,
Professor and Head, IRDBT, Hyderabad.
The lectures were informative and thought provoking. The speakers share
their experience and applications of their topics. We had top 5 students
seminars in the pre lunch session. We distributed prizes to the top 3 seminar
presentations in the valedictory session. It went on well and success
without any delay or disturbance.
College event organized by the Department:
Bhavanotsav, Event Coordinator: Mrs. KVB. Saraswathi.
Brief details: As per the culture of Bhavanotsav, every academic year BVC
organizes inter college techno cultural fest for aspirants assembling from
various colleges with a very high competitive spirit to participate and a
strong determination to indulge in their achievements & accomplishments.
Charles Babbage Day 2016-17
The department of computer science conducts annual event Charles Babbage
Day in the month of December in commemoration of the birth celebrations
of Charles Babbage – The Father of Computing.
The department started this event in the year 2005. The main objective of
this programme is to provide the computer science students a platform to
know, learn and get an awareness of the latest emerging trends in computer
science and information technology.
To accomplish this very objective, the department motivates the students to
participate in several events in areas of computer science and information
technology conducted during this programme.
The department conducts events including:
1. IT Workshop
2. Mini Project
3. Guest Lectures
4. Seminars
5. IT Quiz
6. LAN Gaming
7. Shotgun Debugging etc.
The department also provides the students an opportunity to interact with
the college alumni. This gives them a chance to know and learn from their
experiences, prepare themselves with the skill set required before they
move out of the college portals and face the outside world.
The department also arranges guest lecture on several areas of computer
science by eminent personalities from industry and academia.
Our guest speaker was Mr. Praveen Pakala (Project Manager in Cognizant).
He spoke about “Importance of digitalization”.
This year we had very good participation in poster presentation on the
occasion of “Charles Babbage Day” on the topic “Latest Trends in
Information Technology”.
The prelims for the poster presentation was held on 21st Dec, 2016(2.30 PM
– 5.00 PM) among which 27 teams – members of two participated. Juries for
the day were: Ms. K. Padma Priya, Lecturer and Mr. G Mahesh Kumar,
Assistant Professor Among 27 teams, 10 teams were shortlisted for the final
round that was held on 24th Dec 2016.The final round for the poster
presentation was held on “Charles Babbage Day” (24th Dec, 2016: 2.00 PM
– 3.30 PM) Juries for the day were: Dr Jyothi Nayar Head of the Dept.
Botany, Genetics &Biotechnology and Dr. Vidya Jonnalagadda, Lecturer in
Microbiology.
The winners for the day:
1. First Prize - Krishnamurthy and B Arun (Biometric Technology)
2. Second Prize- T T V Vamsi and N Naveen (LiFi)
As usual the Mini Projects competition was a grand event. 22 teams
participated and they presented their projects on 24th December, 2016.This
year the day began with Mrs. KVB Saraswathi, HOD of Computer Science
report on activities held by the department. Principal motivated the students
how the technology is important for the current generation. Mr. G Mahesh
Kumar, Assistant Professor gave a review on current year activities.
The day concluded with prize distribution ceremony and certificates for
value-added courses (BASIC MS-OFFICE, IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP, DATA
ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL AND JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES) also
distributed. The great enthusiasm was shown by the students when the
winners of mini projects and poster presentation were announced. The prize
winners got certificates and mementos. The day ended with great joy and
happiness.
Value-Added Course-2016-17:
The department of computer science has conducted value-added courses in
the following areas in the month of July 2016:
BASIC MS-OFFICE
BASIC MS-OFFICE was handled by Mr. CHNV Mallikharjuna Rao and Mr. P
Srinivasa, Lecturer in department in computer science. This course duration
was for 25 days. In this, contents like MS-Word, MS-Powerpoint, MS-
Access, MS-Excel was covered. Total numbers of students registered
were 26 and they were from B.Sc Physical Sciences I Semester.
IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP
IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP was handled by Mr. D Ramakrishna, Lecturer,
and Mr. P Abhay Kumar, Network Administration in department of computer
science. This course duration was for 5 days. In this, contents like overview
and identification of hardware components, assembling and disassembling of
PC was covered. Total numbers of students registered were 82 and they
were from B.Sc, BBA, BA, B.Com I & III semester.
DATA ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL
DATA ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL was handled by Mrs. K Padma
Priya, Lecturer and Mrs. Vijaya, Programmer in department of computer
science. This course duration was for 25 days. In this, contents like basics,
formulas, functions, charts, filtering and sorting, data validation, conditional
formatting in excel was covered. Total numbers of students registered
were 66 and they were from BCA, B.Sc, and M.Com II & III year students.
JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES
JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES was handled by Mr. G Mahesh Kumar,
Assistant Professor in department of computer science. This course duration
was for 60 days. In this, contents like basics in java, classes, objects,
arrays, strings, multithreading and java data structures were covered. Total
numbers of students registered were 8 and they were from B.Sc (Physical
Science & Life Sciences) III Semester.
Outreach Program
As a part of department activities, Computer department organized a 5 day
Outreach program on “FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTERS” from 18-7-2016 to
22 July 2016 at Z.P.H. School, Neredmet, Secunderabad for 9th class
students.
Following faculty members of our department took classes and conducted
practical at school computer lab.

The faculty was happy and got different experience from teaching to school
students. The feedback from school students is appreciated. Participants
were given participation certificates. We are thankful to ZPH School
Headmaster, Ms. Aasha (student coordinator) for their co-operation and
support for the successful execution of the program. We will try to provide
more practical hours in the fore coming programs to improve more student
understandability
