In Engineering we understand that finding somewhere to live is one of your main concerns, so here is some guidance on the great choices available to you throughout your course and not just the first year! Living at Warwick First Year With over 6000 rooms available, the University is normally able to offer you on-campus accommodation if you select Warwick as your firm or insurance choice. All halls have study bedrooms and shared kitchen facilities. When you’re picking a hall, you can choose between a flat or corridor layout and between shared bathroom facilities or en-suite bathrooms. Some halls have common rooms and laundrettes within them. Find out more at go.warwick.ac.uk/accommodation You will get a chance to meet students from other courses as we deliberately mix students within the halls. To help balance cost and convenience, you can choose from 30 and 39 week rentals. Costs depend on the style and the facilities available within each accommodation, such as the presence of en-suite bathrooms. For example, the 2012/13 lowest weekly rent is Cryfield at £78 for 30 weeks, whilst the highest is for Bluebell at £150 for 39 weeks. Unlike some universities our prices include heating, electricity, gas, water, insurance, high-speed internet connection and basic cleaning. Each Hall has its own resident tutors and Social Society to help you settle into student life and make new friends. “I’ve had a brilliant place to stay on campus during my first year, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing a house with my friends in the vibrant and beautiful Leamington Spa. I’ve made friends for life, both in halls of residence and by being involved in so many great activities, like football, paintballing and clay pigeon shooting.” Accommodation for the Disabled There are excellent facilities available for disabled students and priority is given when allocating places. Please contact the Accommodation Office for more details. Living at home If you decide to stay at home there is a new Commuting Society to help you integrate into student life. Second/Third Year You cannot normally stay in halls during your second/third year but the University has a large selection of off-campus accommodation with over 450 properties and 1800 rooms in Coventry, Leamington Spa and Kenilworth. In 2012 a new University study facility has been opened in Leamington town hall to support off-campus students. Frequent bus services are available so you do not need your own vehicle. You can of course arrange your own accommodation and we can give you advice on this. Typically our students pay £60 to £80 per week (plus utility bills) for a room in a shared house. Final Year You are free to apply to return to halls or stay in off-campus accommodation – either way we will help you get the best support as you approach your final exams.

In Engineering we understand that finding somewhere to live is one of your main concerns, so here is some guidance on the great choices available to you throughout your course and not just the first year!

Living at Warwick

First YearWith over 6000 rooms available, the University is normally able to offer you on-campus accommodation if you select Warwick as your firm or insurance choice.

All halls have study bedrooms and shared kitchen facilities. When you’re picking a hall, you can choose between a flat or corridor layout and between shared bathroom facilities or en-suite bathrooms. Making the most of your time at WarwickAs you can see there are many and varied opportunities and we look forward to working with future students to apply their engineering skills in the real world.

Where to eat on campusThere are plenty of restaurants and cafes around campus and in the Students’ Union, serving a variety of food throughout the day. Whether you want something for breakfast, a lunchtime snack, a three-course meal, or just to relax with a slice of cake and a coffee, you will find a great place to eat and our free Eating@Warwick discount card will help you to save money. There are also a supermarket on campus for sandwiches and your everyday shopping, and a large Tesco nearby.

Student LifeFor many students, University will be the first time away from home. The University provides a vast range of opportunities for you to participate in new activities and expand your social horizons.

“I joined mixed netball this year which was a fantastic decision as it is great fun and good to get some exercise. There really are things for everybody at Warwick from the budding athletes to those who just want to have fun!”

Warwick Arts CentreRight at the heart of campus is Warwick Arts Centre, one of the most exciting cultural venues in the country. With two theatres, a newly-refurbished concert hall holding 1500 people, a cinema and art gallery, you can sample the best of UK and international drama, comedy and dance, hear all kinds of music from pop to classical, watch the most recent box office successes as well as art house movies, and see the latest contemporary art.

SportFrom just £49 a year, you get access to over 60 acres of outdoor playing fields, including football, rugby, lacrosse, cricket and frisbee pitches. The three outdoor all-weather floodlit pitches, including a synthetic grass pitch, are ideal for football, rugby and American football. There are three indoor sports halls, a 25 metre 6-lane swimming pool, squash courts, a large health and fitness centre, a performance weight training centre, an aerobics studio and the Bear Rock indoor climbing centre.

“One of the best aspects about Warwick is definitely its vibrant campus. Having everything in one place makes it so easy to meet other students from different backgrounds and courses, and to take advantage of all the clubs, societies, events and opportunities on offer. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two years here, living both in Tocil halls and off-campus with friends in nearby Canley. Some of my most memorable extra-curricular experiences include creating a new international society, representing fellow Engineering students and trying out Octopush – underwater hockey!”

University is a great time to try something new – have you ever considered gliding, skydiving, cheer leading, akido, polo, Thai boxing, handball or ballroom dancing?

Engineering SocietiesThere are two very active societies for engineering students at Warwick. The Engineering Society’s primary goal is to make sure that our students get the most out of their degree through activities such as industrial visits and mentoring younger students. Engineering Without Borders is an international

development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. Its programmes provide opportunities for young people to learn about the role of technology in tackling poverty. Students can work on projects around the globe.

Students’ Union and SocietiesThe Students’ Union is a student-led charity that works closely with the University. It employs over 200 staff and has over 230 active societies catering for every interest. These range from angling, belly dancing, juggling and Irish dancing to the curry, debating or even Disney appreciation society!

There is a full range of religious, cultural and political societies as well as campaigning charities and opportunities for voluntary work.

The Students’ Union arranges a full programme of social events including comedy, concerts, balls and other entertainment as a supplement to the vibrant social scene in Coventry, Leamington, Kenilworth and Birmingham.

Pastoral careThe Students’ Union also provides a comprehensive advice centre for both UK and foreign students, which complements the University’s pastoral care.
