Prox Mounts
To provide reduced downtime and setup costswhen sensors are replaced or tooling is modified,Balluff provides a range of mounting solutions todecrease the need to adjust sensors for correctsensing range.
Initial Sensor Installation
Sensor is assembled into the “Prox-Mount” tubeand locked into place with a plastic compressionring and metal nut. The “Prox Mount” andsensor assembly is then mounted and adjustedas with any inductive sensor.
Sensor Replacement or Tooling Modification
Simply loosen the metal nut, allowing the sensorto be quickly removed. Install the new sensorinto the “Prox-Mount” mounting tube and lockinto place with the compression ring and nut. Apositive stop designed into the “Prox Mount” tubeensures effortless repeatable sensor positioning.

Inductive Prox senses
approach of the Detent.
AccessoriesTo avoid sensor damage, Balluff’s ProxActuators isolate inductive proximitysensors from mechanical contact withtargets. They consist of a MountingClamp and a Detent Holder and areused with either a 4mm or 8mmsmooth bore sensor.
When a target contacts the plunger,the rod moves the detent into thesensing range of the switch, thusactivating its output. When the target isremoved, the plunger springs back intoplace and the detent is moved out ofthe sensing range.
Each Prox Actuator consists of athreaded barrel, a plunger & rod withspring return and a detent, which is asmall nub that can be detected by thesensor.
The sensor is inserted into one end ofthe mounting clamp and the detentholder is inserted into the other end.Mounting clamps come 4 ways:
��� Straight and Right Angle for use with 4mm sensors
��� Straight and Right Angle for 8mm sensors.
Detent Holders come in threeconfigurations:
��� M12 x 1, 70mm long
��� M08 x 1, 49mm long
��� M08 x 1, 89mm long
All have a 8mm smooth bore end forinsertion into the clamp. Any holdercan be used with any clamp. Once thesensor and holder are installed, twoAllen screws are tightened to holdthem in place.

Construction & Operation
Both the screw and piston are heat-treated to withstandheavy use. A connecting rod ties the spring-loaded piston tothe target, which triggers the sensor when the piston isdisplaced. The sensor is isolated from impact and separatedfrom the target with a plastic bushing.

Three-wire DC sensors canhave very high switchingfrequencies. This fastresponse time coupled withhigh speed operations on amachine, can mean thatevents can sometimes occurwithout being detected by thecontrol on the machine.
The pulse width lengtheningdevice allows the switchoutput to be extended from 2milliseconds to 1 second.The adjustable delay canthen be used to insure yourmachine knows whenswitching has occurred.
Comments:
� Protected against over-load (through PTC) andagainst polarity reversal.
� On the input, only a PNPsensor from BES 515-...,BES 516-... or BES 517-...(DC, 3-/4-wire) can beused, either normally openor normally closed.
