Second Year semester 3 = 14 weeks semester 4 = 14 weeks
Third Year semester 5 = 14 weeks semester 6 = 12 weeks
The curriculum is developed in accordance with active requirements and its structure covers the
three years of the undergraduate cycle. The academic disciplines in the curriculum are coded
uniformly in the whole University and have a logical succession specified by the conditions set
out for each subject.
The curriculum includes compulsory subjects, optional (elective) and facultative academic
disciplines. According to the role they play in providing the future graduates with skills in the
philology field, subjects are classified into: fundamental subjects, specialization subjects and
complementary subjects. Beginning with the second year of studies, the curricula offer the
students the possibility of choosing one of the educational directions drawn by the optional
subjects.
Whereas the fundamental academic disciplines in the curriculum provide basic training for
philologists, the specialization subjects outline the professional profile of the future graduates,
specialized in the use of foreign languages and the complementary subjects contribute to the
gain of knowledge from related fields, so that the graduates can follow a certain career path.
Facultative subjects aim to broaden the the students' horizon of knowledge and general culture,
employing both complementary and specialized areas. Teaching practice is a key component of
the educational process. It is organized beginning with the second year.
The subjects included in the curriculum end with an examination or a test at the end of each
semester.

By implementing the European Credit Transfer System - ECTS (according to MedC Order no.
3617/2005) - and "Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University's internal regulations regarding the
implementation of the credit transfer system, each academic discipline in the curriculum is
designed to cover the duration of one semester and is accompanied by a number of credit points
(transferable study credits, also called "ECTS credits"). The number of credit points was
established according to the importance and role of each subject in the training of the specialist
(basic field or complementary training) and the set of activities (hours of attendance at classes
in the courses, seminars and workshops in which the students are enrolled and hours of
individual study, paper writing, research, etc.) to be performed so as to acquire the skills needed
to pass examinations.
Each semestrial curriculum contains compulsory and optional subjects which comprise 30 ECTS
credits. For graduation in undergraduate studies in the “philology” field, 180 transferable study
credits (ECTS) are required, which leads to a duration of 3 years for bachelor's degree programs.
Facultative subjects in the curriculum obtain transferable study credits, but these credits are
awarded in addition to the 180 ECTS credits needed to obtain a bachelor's degree in the field of
"philology". Designing the curricula according to the tasks assigned to students is compulsory

for the achievement of the objectives in the syllabi, expressed in terms of learning results and
acquired competences.
The acquisition of competences in the philology field – of learning a foreign language – refers to
four dimensions:
1. the cognitive dimension (knowledge, comprehension, communication competence)
2. the affective dimension (attitudes, perception and understanding of the targeted cultural
environment)
3. the pragmatic dimension (social competence, the ability to interact)
4. the reflexive dimension (the relativization of the reference framework).
The types of acquired competences are:
1.1.1.1. General Competences:
the mastering and correct use of subject-specific notions
the mastering of terminology and linguistic/ literary / cultural models
knowledge of methods and techniques that can be used to describe and analyze the
subject
critical interpretation applicable in the analysis of specialty literature
practical skills including methods, techniques and tools for self-knowledge and
psychological knowledge, design, management and evaluation of learning activities
2.2.2.2. Specific Competences:
(lexical, grammatical, semantic, phonological, socio-linguistic) linguistic
competence
communication competence in the target language
 emotional-behavioral competence
the pragmatic competence of management of intercultural communication situations
 intercultural communication competence
3.3.3.3. Instrumental and applicable competences:
the competence to apply, comparatively and trans-culturally, the background of
knowledge specific to the cultural and linguistic target environment in intercultural
communication situations

4. Transversal Competences:
 psychopedagogical competences
skills in digital information and communication technology
 managerial competences
Forms of assessment:
The students' knowledge can be assessed:
• during the whole semester as continuous assessment and
• oral exam (viva voce) at the end of the semester or written exam in the examination
session.
For continuous assessment during the semester students will obtain a number of points that will
be quantified in a grade calculated at the last seminar in the equation:
= no. of points gained during the semester / 10.
For each subject, a mid-semester partial exam may be held. The minimum passing grade is 7.
The grade obtained during the semester will represent 1/3 of the final grade if the written exam
grade is minimum 5. In calculating the score the following aspects are taken into consideration:
partial tests, attendance at courses and seminars, reports, essays, case studies, practical work or
project, participation at seminars. The total is 100 points. This score is established by PO-04
bylaw in "Dimitrie Cantemir" Christian University and can be modified by the course instructor
according to the particularities of the subject.
Partial tests ............................................... 1 x 20 points = 20 points
Attendance at lectures and seminars ................................... 56 x 0.5 points = 28 points
Reports; essays ............................................ 2 x 5 points = 10 points
Case Studies ............................................................... 2 x 5 points = 10 points
Practice paper or project /program outline
research paper (to be handed no later than 10 days before
the exam) ........................................................................ = 20 points
Participation in (seminar) debates........................ 3 x 4 points = 12 points

Total = 100 points
The conversion of points to grades is as follows:
Grade 5 = 50 points
Grade 6 = 51 - 60 points
Grade 7 = 61-70 points
Grade 8 = 71-80 points
Grade 9 = 81-90 points
Grade 10 = 91 - 100 points
The final grade is calculated as the arithmetic mean between the grade that reflects the activity
performed during the year resulting from the points and the double of the grade obtained at the
exam (which must be at least 5) divided by 3.
Exams can be written or oral. The course instructor decides upon the method of examination.
