Shakespeare, Jazz Drumming and … The Art of Nuance in Presenting “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more”! Henry V Many professionals speak to professional and civic groups on their area of expertise, and all regularly communicate with their clients and associates. Few professionals, however, have received formal training on how to design a presentation, be it formal or otherwise. This lecture by estate planning attorney and professional speaker, Stephen Pappaterra, uses analogies from film direction to jazz drumming techniques to illustrate the importance of nuance in making presentations. Steve contends that speeches can (and should) be crafted “frame-by-frame,” just as a film director uses thousands of short and long sequences to create a full-length movie. Then, Steve (a professional percussionist) demonstrates with drums how this “frame-by-frame” approach can produce a dynamic and diverse sound by using accents, syncopation, and the “space between the notes.” According to Steve, “it’s the shadings around the major themes that produce a captivating presentation, whether it’s a film, speech, or Broadway standard.” An attorney and professional speaker, Steve Pappaterra is senior vice president and managing director of Wealth Planning for PNC Wealth Management, one of the country’s premier trust and investment firms. He has responsibility for 70 wealth planners, nearly all of whom are attorneys, CPAs, or or certified financial planners (CFPs ® ). A frequent lecturer, Steve has published extensively on estate planning, philanthropy, and communication. In addition, he has appeared on CNBC and been quoted in US News & World Report, USA Today, Fortune, Forbes.com, and Town & Country, among others. With the incessant (and often exasperating) flow of information, connecting with an audience has never been more challenging. This program draws on the success of the best verbal and artistic communicators to offer a transformative approach to presenting ideas. Thought-provoking, authoritative, and even theatrical, attendees can be certain that the content for this session will be "Anything But Obvious" ... and the presentation "Anything But Dull." Many professionals speak to professional and civic groups on their area of expertise, and all regularly communicate with their clients and associates.

Then, Steve (a professional percussionist) demonstrates with drums how this “frame-by-frame” approach can produce a dynamic and diverse sound by using accents, syncopation, and the “space between the notes.” According to Steve, “it’s the shadings around the major themes that produce a captivating presentation, whether it’s a film, speech, or Broadway standard.”

An attorney and professional speaker, Steve Pappaterra is senior vice president and managing director of Wealth Planning for PNC Wealth Management, one of the country’s premier trust and investment firms. He has responsibility for 70 wealth planners, nearly all of whom are attorneys, CPAs, or or certified financial planners (CFPs®).
