Bottom Lines:
Lots of Research Activities in Preservation!
Most are Initiated to fulfill specific client needs.
The Roadmap is a Planned Set of Research Ideas to Fulfill the Overall Agency and Industry Needs, and Advance Preservation as a Whole.
Discussion Questions:1. What research do we need to track?2. Who will do the tracking, and HOW?

2. Discussion of Research & Tracking
3. Discussion of Roadmap Update Needs
AASHTO Subcommittee on Maintenance - PTWG July 18, 2011
Do We Need to Update the Preservation Roadmap?
Has there been a change in focus within the preservation community that is different than the climate in which the Roadmap was developed? Energy Use / GHG Emissions / Sustainability?
Budget Constraints Driving Preservation Decisions More?
Increasing Focus on Performance Measures?
Sufficient Progress in Tackling Problem Statements to Warrant a Review and Update Process?
HMA Roadmap is revisited by FHWA and NAPA every couple of years:
Goal: “Keep the Preservation Roadmap a Living Document” ???
AASHTO Subcommittee on Maintenance - PTWG July 18, 2011
Preservation and Asset Managementwon’t bring short-term glory,
but they will bring long-term satisfaction!
