Who is the Gold Coast Physical Activity Alliance?

The Alliance is a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to the advancement of physical activity initiatives on the Gold Coast.

We aim to provide a platform to share, coordinate, communicate and integrate physical activity efforts on the Gold Coast.  We acknowledge that collective use of scarce

resources; both financial and human are more effective than operating in isolation.

parkrun in AustraliaThe story began in October 2010 when I was granted permission by parkrun UK to bring the concept Down Under.

Telephoned Samantha Hughes – Senior Active Parks Officer from City of Gold Coast – who was immediately supportive.

Upon arrival on GC in January 2011 was invited to join Gold Coast Physical Activity Alliance (GCPAA).

We launched Main Beach parkrun in April 2011 with 110 runners in attendance including then-Mayor Ron Clarke. We now have 40 parkrun events with over 51,000 registered parkrunners. Our major sponsors are adidas, Suncorp Bank and Stockland and our National Patron is Ron Clarke.
