A Work of Art 1. Beautiful Masterpiece

Psalm 139:13-16 (MSG) Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.

A Work of Art 1. Beautiful Masterpiece

• A big lie women believe about themselves is that physical beauty matters more than inner beauty. The world places tremendous value on external body image: The physical and the sensual.

Page 12: A Work of Art. A Work of Art Introduction A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands (Proverbs 14:1 NLT)

A Work of Art 1. Beautiful Masterpiece

• The truth: There’s nothing wrong with physical beauty, but it is fleeting. No one looks the same at 50 as they did at 20! There is something that matters more than the external:

• Inner beauty. Having a radiant spirit, a conscience that’s clear, a heart that’s pure, a smile that is genuine are all work that God’s Spirit is able to effect in a woman’s life. These are the things that really matter – and the areas that women should focus on primarily!

A Work of Art 2. Unique

• A Lie• Where do we get your sense of who we

are? From people around us, or even from what people said about as a child? Many women struggle with self-image. They feel they are worthless.

• Too often, negative words spoken in childhood by family, friends significant adults (like “You’re so fat,” or name calling, become part of what women believe about themselves that they carry into adulthood.

Page 15: A Work of Art. A Work of Art Introduction A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands (Proverbs 14:1 NLT)

A Work of Art 2. Unique

• The Truth: • God values and loves you. God cares enough about

your soul that He gave His Son for you.• Lies keep us in bondage• The Truth releases us and sets us free to live the way

God wants us to live• Lies we believe about ourselves can influence and

even control the way we live. That’s why it’s important to concentrate on the true, noble, lovely, and admirable things about ourselves.

• When I begin to see myself as God sees me, I learn to accept myself, to see my strengths and my weaknesses; and then I begin to understand how to be content.

Ephesians 4:25-3125 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.Hebrews 12:11 (NLT)11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

A Work of Art Conclusion

• Since God loves us unconditionally, wants us to live contentedly, and trusts us completely to represent him. Since our true identities are found only in Christ, we need to set aside all of the inaccurate blueprints we have of ourselves and build our lives according to God’s perfect design.

• “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
