A word from the architects – Monk Mackenzie The 60-70 Daventry St site is an unusual diamond shape, with very little street frontage. This presents challenges in respect of connectivity and isolation, as well as opportunities in respect of community building, socialisation and place-making. Opening the centre of the site has provided the best urban design outcome, as this helps to create spatial separation, a sense of comfort and a central focus to this micro-community. Importantly this will also allow the homes to absorb the north and north-western sun in the afternoons. 17 homes have been designed for the site. Careful consideration has been given to security and quiet enjoyment, as well as observing good proportions of height in relation to boundary with our neighbours. We have paid special attention to ensuring that our visual aesthetic complements the neighbourhood. In this spirit, the development will be tenure blind, meaning that the new Housing New Zealand homes will be indistinguishable from other new private developments.
