A W O R D F R O M O U R P R E S I D E N TSeventy years ago, Mississippi WMU established a

mission offering known today as the MS WMU Edwina Robinson Offering. This offering allocates funding for several special causes that WMU supports. Miss Edwina Robinson served as the third Executive Secretary of Mississippi WMU, serving from 1944 through 1971. She had a special love for youth and it was her vision and dream to have a permanent camp for them. It was under her leadership this became a reality in the development of Camp Garaywa in 1947. She also led her team in the training of women leaders across Mississippi and in other states, such as Montana.

Today, in the spirit of Miss Ed’s love for missions, the MS WMU Edwina Robinson Offering provides funds for missions compassion, discipling, encouragement, support and connections. As we think about being blessed to serve, let’s give “good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over.” God bless you as you pray, support and serve our Lord.

Camp Garaywa holds a special place in my heart. First, my call. As a college freshman, I knew God was calling me into the gospel ministry. Active in BSU at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, I attended a Leadership Conference at Garaywa on April 11-13, 1975; my first visit to this special place. That weekend on its hallowed grounds, God confronted me about His will through the young men from Blue Mountain College who were my cabin mates, the worship ser-vices and the small groups in which I participated. I left knowing deeply in my heart that His will was neither a career in law or coaching football. I talked with my BSU Director, the late Roy Smith, my girlfriend then (now my wife) Karen and my parents about God’s will for me. The next month I made the public deci-sion to follow Him in being a minister of the gospel. I preached my first sermon two weeks later. Each time I drive onto Garay-wa’s grounds, I think about my life-changing weekend.

Second, my family. Karen had gone to Queen’s Court in 1969-70; impacting her teenage faith and missions convictions.

B E C A U S E Y O U G A V E . . .• In 2020, the Macedonian Call Foundation was able to provide

26 missionary families with vehicles while they were on their stateside assignments. MCF was also able to upgrade one older vehicle to a newer one.

• In 2020, 12 Mississippi Missionary Kids attending college re-ceived encouragement through a Christmas gift of $100 each.

• In 2020, two Mississippi Missionary Kids starting their fresh-man year in college were able to attend the MK Re-entry Retreat.

• In 2020, five new Mississippi Missionaries received monetary gifts of encouragement as they started their first-term of ser-vice with the International Mission Board.

In the 1990’s, our daughter Kendra attended five GA Camps. After each week she told of meeting missionaries and what she had learned. In three college summers she served as a cabin counselor at Garaywa. After each summer she showed evidence of a greater sensitivity to knowing and doing God’s will. I envision that she will send her children to camp at Garaywa, praying that the same life-changing experiences of their mother and grandparents will happen to them.

Last, my convention. Beginning in late 1990, I have attended dozens upon dozens of Mississippi Baptist Con-vention Board meetings at Camp Garaywa. I have sat in and led training sessions of ministers and laymen, doing the equipping work of our Board. I now serve on the MBCB, and during these Covid-19 times, our Executive Committee and Board meetings are held on the hallowed grounds of the moss-covered campus. We are making decisions which deeply affect Mississippi Baptists.

For fifty years Garaywa Camp & Conference Center has influenced my family, churches, convention and me. I can only thank God for what He has done in me at this special place. If you will let Him, He will do the same for you, your family and church.
