CALLING ALL FUTURE amp PAST ART AWARENESS VOLUNTEERS
Future 2011 Volunteers As we begin another school year at White Eagle Elementary the Art Awareness
program needs volunteers The program introduces students to artists and their paintings You do not need to
have an art background
Over the years the PTA has purchased prints which are hung throughout the school hallways As an Art
Awareness volunteer you will take a print into the classroom discuss the artist the print and do a short
project Presentations are done once a month and the presentation and project combined should take
approximately 20-30 minutes Information about the artist and the print is provided in a packet and filled with
ideas from past additional research and preparation time is up to you Some of the presentations are available in
a PowerPoint format to present in the classroom using the Smart Board making it even easier for you to present
Crazy schedule One of the best things about volunteering is that you work out the exact date and time with your
childrsquos teacher for your assigned month This is a great opportunity for parents or even grandparents ndash even those
that only have a sliver of time (20-30 min) during the school day to present to the classroom
The Art Awareness program specifically needs volunteers for the following teachers

Second Grade Vitas Nov Jan Feb Mar Apr May
Dusek Oct Nov Dec Feb

the Art Awareness program even more presentation friendly We are continuing to expand this to cover all

Kindergarten Vazquez Oct Nov Dec Jan
First Grade Lydon Oct Jan Feb
Towle Nov Jan Feb Mar May
Second Grade Vitas Nov Jan Feb Mar Apr May
Dusek Oct Nov Dec Feb
Third Grade Degurian Nov Dec May

Hesselink Nov Dec Jan May
Nickel Oct Nov Dec Feb Mar Apr May
Scott Oct May
Fifth Grade HarpestOct Dec Jan Feb Apr May
Kramer Oct Dec Jan Apr
Slanicky Dec Feb Mar
Gamboa Oct Jan Feb
It is important to remember that if there are no Art Awareness volunteers in your childs class that classroom
will not be able to enjoy this valuable program
Past Volunteers Thank you to our past volunteers in paving the way thru utilizing the Smart Boards amp making
the Art Awareness program even more presentation friendly We are continuing to expand this to cover all
prints If you happen to have any digital presentation materials on any of our past printsartists we would love to
collect them from you via email to add to the PTA Art Awareness digital library that is in development We look
forward to getting emails from you

FALL EARTH CLUB NEWS
Have you ever made a bed for a red wriggler worm Well the fourth grade members of the
Earth Club had this opportunity when they cleaned out the indoor composting bin The students
learned that composting continues the process of recycling which is giving back to the environ-
ment -- namely fertilizer for our flower garden
Students were able to incorporate the humus (the byproduct from the worms) into our flower
garden In addition they cleaned out the outdoor composting bin which is used for our leftover
fruit and vegetable scraps from lunchroom
Outdoor Earth Club Activities for the Fall
―Planting the Promise ndash Members will plant red tulip bulbs in honor of Red Ribbon Week
Weeding and pruning the garden
Planting mums around the flagpole
Indoor Earth Club Activities (Focusing on Conserving Energy)
Signs were made reminding people to turn off lights when they leave their room
Limits set for the amount of paper towels used in the bathroom
Posters will be created for our ―No Waste Lunch initiative
The students are looking forward to providing an Earth Club presentation at an upcoming PTA
meeting Watch for details
Earth Club works hard to make White Eagle Elementary an environmentally friendly place both inside and out
We appreciate the support from the PTA

School-Wide
Community Service Project (Sponsored by the Kindergarten Classes)
Operation Support Our Troops
November 14th ndash 18th (Morning Drop-Off)
The Kindergartners and their families will be sponsoring a school-wide service project which
will support Operation Support Our Troops ndash Americas
httpwwwosotamericaorg
The mission of Operation Support Our Troops (OSOTIL) is to support the needs of
our members of the armed forces of the United States of America deployed in harms way
This very worthy organization accomplishes their mission by sending packages of items that
are not readily available to our troops in their deployed locations along with personal letters
cards and notes of support from the community at large
Watch for updates on the school website as well as the
Weekly Prowl which will
list specific items needed during the donation week
Please consider supporting our troops in remembrance of Veteranrsquos Day ndash Nov 11
Every donation makes a difference Please contact Elisha Johnson with any questions mbj5669comcastnet
BLOOD DRIVE Tuesday September 27th 4-730 PM (MPR)
All donors receive a commemorative T-shirt
In addition to donors we need volunteers to provide a 45 minute child-
care shift for our donorsrsquo children or to provide baked goods for our do-
nors
Please email Amy Wang at amysuewangyahoocom for more details
