Generously Assisted by: the Playking Foundation and Margaret Dhillon Estate.

The India International Centre annual SPIRIT of INDIA concert, a joint effort by the IIC and the Mohindar Dhillon Music Foundation, Pune, with a chapter in Delhi: acting on behalf of the Nataraj Cultural Centre Melbourne. This is an extension of the program developed in Melbourne by the non-profit Nataraj Cultural Centre over 35 years, under the leadership of Mohindar Dhillon, a former Delhi University teacher. Mohindar migrated to Australia in 1974 to marry Margaret, an English woman, a Monash University teacher and a trained pianist. Margaret, who died in 2001, encouraged him to promote India’s beautiful music there. The concert in Delhi, as the one in Melbourne, is a memorial to her, and is supported partially by the Margaret Dillon Estate. The MD Music Foundation has been set up to promote education and performance of Indian music and dance, and to support students from the working class. SPIRIT of INDIA has presented in Australia and New Zealand a galaxy of eminent musicians and dancers, at the highest professional level, in association with major arts organisations like the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Recital Centre, and with major international arts festivals, like WOMADelaide. www.nataraj.org.com

MUSICIANS RAjENDRA PRASANNA, eminent virtuoso flute and shehnai player, ranks with Hari Prasad Chaurasia for his breathtaking artistry, playful vivacity and sweet melodiousness. He toured Australia in 2011 for the Nataraj Cultural Centre. Rishab Prasanna, his son, and Shubh, Kishan Maharaj’s grandson, are two emerging musicians remarkable for their dexterity. www.prasannaflute.com
